BAR in .338 info?
« on: March 08, 2005, 03:32:31 PM »
I tried this on the semi and pmp rifle forum but no results.  So here goes - anyone have any experience with a BAR Safari in .338? I am looking at the Safari with the boss (blued with walnut - not the stalker or synthetic). Not so much interested in accuracy results as I am in reliability, function, does it hold up with this heavy caliber over the years etc. Thanks for any info.

BAR in .338 info?

Darwyn,
I hunt with two friends that use the BAR in .338win mag exclusively for big game. One has the BOSS the other does not. Reliability has been fine, we hunt Saskachewan, Montana and Colorado for elk, black bear and moose so these rifles have been through just about as bad a weather as a person could expect. Both rifles seem to have a preference for  lighter weight bullets such as the 210 & 225 grain Nosler partitions. They will shoot these into 1.25" for a three shot group. The 250gr Noslers spread out to 2" groups. One suggestion, if you get a BAR put a premium scope on it. When you try for that fast second shot you want to make sure you have good eye relief case the rifle shifts. The BAR seems to be a pretty good rig for an auto. Hope this helps.
