Mainspring replacement ?
« on: March 06, 2005, 01:00:18 AM »
My dad has an older .38 spl s&w, it's a six shot snubby so I'm guessing its a pre-K frame (no letters , just a serial #)
Once in a while it wont fire a round on the first strike and I'm thinking it may need a new main spring. The same ammo shoots fine in all our other .38s and .357s
How hard is it too replace it, and will a newer K frame spring fit or are they different ?

It is the easiest spring to change on the gun.

Before you do it make sure that the spring strain screw is not loose...if it has worked loose it will cause your symptons.

This screw is located on front strap of grip frame.  Make certian that is bottomed out clockwise.
