winchester or browning rimfire?

am pondering the purchase of a new lever 22.   between the two, 9422 or bl 22?     the sights on the browning look cheap to me.  if i were to get the winchester i would want the trapper model.   opinions and experiences appreciated.

These are both great rifles, and it comes down to personal preference.

The BL-22 is a little lighter than the 9422. It also has a faster-cycling action which can be cycled with just a flick of the fingers... but the shorter lever throw means that the action feels a little stiffer. The sights on either are adequate and rugged enough for their intended purpose.

I own a 9422 (standard model), have owned a Marlin, and have sold several dozen of each plus several dozen of the BL-22s. All are fine guns. I plan to pick up a Trapper while they're still available. My 9422 is hard chromed and I'll get the Trapper hard chromed as well.

My recommendation: go to a gunshop that has both and handle them a little. Buy the one you like the best. You will not be disappointed with either model.

Both are nice, but I would give the edge to a used Marlin 39A when it comes to .22 levers.  They are sweet.

I recently purchased a 9422. Took it out of the box and it wouldn't go boom. Just returend it today for repair.

I went with the Winchester because it felt better than the Browing to me and I liked the sights better. The Winchester also breaks down real easy and I do not like the idea of the Browning having the trigger assmebly come down with the lever when cycling the action.

It broke my heart for the Winchester not to shoot because I sure like that gun.

You just can't beat the Marlin Model 39.
It's available as a (takedown) carbine or rifle.
1. Accurate
2. Walnut & blued steel (built like they usta)
3. Functions flawlessly, forever (see #2)

I went through the same debate when I bought my lever .22 rifle.  I considered rifles from Browning, Winchester, and Marlin.  I quickly eliminated the 39A, as it was simply not as compact as the other two.  Plus, it was heavier.  So, the decision came down to the Winchester and the Browning.  I really wanted to pick the Browning, but ultimately could not.  The stock set simply seemed "cheap" when compared to the Winchester, which was of much better wood and had nice, sharp checkering.   The Winchester was also a little easier to take apart for me, and I ended up buying the 94/22.  I liked the gun so much, that I went back a couple of weeks later and bought one in .22 Magnum!

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Browning.  It just didn't seem as refined as the Winchester to me.
