Scope Mount Question
« on: March 03, 2005, 05:01:44 AM »
I have a 300 Win Mag heavy barrel that I put a standard aluminum weaver rail on. Now I am having doubts about this mount and was thinkin of replacing it with a Leupold DD mount.
Is anybody using this mount and are you happy with it?

 Any suggestions comments GREATLY appreciated.

Scope Mount Question

My 209x50 has a weaver mount and rings with a 50mm scope. That seems to be holding up fine. My 338 Win mag barrel started out with Redfield mounts and rings with a 50mm scope. It kept tearing loose. I went to a 40mm scope and lower rings, still came loose. I finally went to a Virgin Valley mount with six screws. Had to get 2 extra holes tapped in the bbl. I used Warne rings with the new mount. No problems at all. One of the main reasons, that I went to the VV mount, was to get my rings farther apart. All of the Burris, Leupold, Redfield, etc. mounts use the factory holes and put the rings too close together IMO.

I use the Warne mounts on my 300 Win Mag and my other Encore barrels.  :D My buddy uses the Leupold mounts and he likes them.

The weaver stile mounting system is extremely strong.  The problem is the weaver rings, they aren't that great.  I like using any of the weaver stile bases with a quality set of rings like Burris signature zee rings or the Leupuld mark 4 rings.
No, I'm not you typical Californian.  :sniper:
