Greybeard, A while back you were talking about getting a weatherby vangard in 257WM cal. Have you had a chance to play with it yet? Have you killed any game with it?

While we're on the subject of .257 Wby Magnum, does anyone have some suggestions for handloads? I bought a factory second, left-handed accumark last year and have had mediocre results with my limited efforts so far. The folks at Weatherby assured me there were only cosmetic defects with the stock, and that the barrel and action were fine. AA8700 + 100 gr Sierra gamekings grouped terribly. OK groups (1.25-1.5") with H4831SC + 100gr Nosler ballistic tips. W760 and Speer 100gr spitzers has shown some promise with 2 out of 3 groups below an inch. I noticed factory ammo is about 3.148" and my tighter groups have been in this range. 3.17" loads haven't shot as tightly. Anyone have any experience loading this caliber in a Mark V?

Sodbuster, When I purchased my ultra-lite weatherby in 257WM I also ordered a case of federal premium ammo with the 115gr nosler partisions. They group about 3/4" at 100yds. I have not found a hand load that groups as well. However the dealer I purchased my rifle from hunts exclusively with one and swears by a 117gr sierra gamemaster and a max load of IMR 4831. I have yet to try this load so I can't vouch for it. Try it you may like it. Regards, Byron

I use RL25 powder with my 257 WBY. It is a hunting powder not an acuratacy even tho it shoots about 3/4 " at 150 YDS while trying to find my zero. This powder gives me real close to WBY loads FPS.

not sure if i am entitled to reply on this since my 257 weatherby is on a winchester model 70 with a shilen barrel but here it goes for my 2 cents lol. have had great results with reloader 19,as well as reloader 22.
watch out on the nosler partitions,shoot well and i use them for long range varmit size but the speed is to much for deer size game,they tend to come apart.if larger game is what you are looking to shoot stick with the partitions or a frame.
