Cannonmaker, I'm the new kid on the block
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:59:45 PM »
Howdy folks, my name is Rick Neff, you'll know me here as Cannonmaker.
about myself, after farming and raising hogs, farrow to finish, for twenty years I sold the farm and built a shop in town, Malta Idaho, and now doing Ag. repair (the village Blacksmith).  Welding and machine shop, In a small farming and ranching community, business is slow.  To fill in the time I build Cannons of the Civil War.  I'm not real good with computers,  I tell my customers its a good thing we don't still wear six guns,  or my computer would have holes all through it.  It will be a pleasure to sponsor this fourm. thanks, from Neff Cannons,  Cannonmaker.

If you make it to southern Idaho, drop in, we will have some fun. were just over the boarder from Utah, straight north of the lake. This cost me a bit but it should be worth it, as they say, the checks in the mail. also, how do I get my name and what ever at the bottom of this message?

Go up to the top of the page and click on Profile.  That will bring up your profile management page.  Click on the Profile tab; that will bring up another management page.  Click on Signature and enter in the box the text you want for a signature.  You can doctor the appearance with BBCode or html.  Click Preview to see how it looks, Reset to start over or Submit to save your new signature.

Cannonmaker -

Find one of the 'buttons' in one of your posts or at the top of some of the screens that says PROFILE.  Pick it.

When the window opens, you will see two rows of tabs near the top of the screen.  The PUBLIC tab is active on the top row and the Base Information tab on the second row is active.

You want to select the PROFILE tab on the first row, then when it opens the SIGNATURE tab on the second row.  That should get you to the place where you can edit your 'signature block' to add to each post.

You'll find lots of help here - I can see as I'm typing this GGaskill has also responded to your question.

Been through your area once, back in '66.  Do I remember something about measuring water in inch-acres?

Jeff welcome aboard, we are glad to have you and thank you for your sponsorship.

From the designs you display it's very obvious that you have William Green's plans.  Some of us here also have the late Mr. Greens plans and if you are missing any we could probably find the one you don't have.

We also could probably find a few other plans for several other cannons. I know I have have several different sets of full scale drawings from Antique Ordnance publishers.

If we can help let us know.

Cat Whisperer said he was in Idaho in 66, been awhile, also 50 Idaho Miner inches = 1 cubic Foot per Second, a Acre-inch covers 1 acre 1" deep---I can go on, I am the water master on Raft River and Clear Creek.

DD I started with Wm Green's Plans, although I have made several corrections.  I strive to be true to the scale and design of the origanal Civil War pieces.  I do gun shows around the west, and have had people identify every piece that I have.  I would apperaiate new plans,  I don't have a 20 pounder Parrott nor any Motor plans.

Graybeard, thank you for setting up my signature.

ARE YOU AWARE OF ...
« Reply #12 on: February 28, 2005, 08:31:40 PM »
Antique Ordnance Publishers?  They do original material plans for many Civil War and earlier era artillery pieces.  Most plans run around $12 for a lot of information.  They are a family run second business and sometimes are slow about replying or sending material so don't be surprised.  Following is their address from the Where to find ... sticky at the top of the forum:

Antique Ordnance Publishers
P.O.Box 610434
Port Huron, MI 48061

I also have the following street address:

Antique Ordnance Publishers
3611 Old Farm Lane
Ft. Gratiot, MI  48059

Ask for their catalog sheet.

If you want the Antique Ordnance in a hurry order them from the Dixie catalog, or web site. Check with the order person and they can tell whats in each booklet.  Otherwise you can order from Antique Ordnance directly it takes a whileeeeeeeeeeeee, but you will get, and the owner is  nice guy.

Hi Fred,
Dixie is a good source for plans,  they also deliver quick, I have gotten a couple from them.
I started doing Gun Shows a little over a year ago, other dealers sometimes have some good plans they will part with.
I will be doing some threads on the shows and what some people say they have done.  this will mainly be a safety issue,  trying to keep everyone safe and all intact.

AMEN!  If you've read much of what I've posted you know that I've seen a cannon explode (from 15' away) and that one of my common phrases is that you need to know when you light the fuse whether it's a cannon or a bomb.

Calamity Jane ask how I can Sell my purdy cannons,  it's simple Calamilty Jane, if I SELL-EM I then can afford to build more. I just got a E-mail, tonight,  from a Marine Colonel who just got back from Iraq.  The Colonel is ordering a 10th scale Widow Blakely, a Confederate Gun that was at Vicksburg.
Thanks for the complement on my guns.
