I have 2 EMF Hartford 1892 rifles both in .45 Colt - 24" octagon & 20" round carbine. Both are excellent rifles. Made in Brazil by Rossi, they have occasionally had lemons sent out but customer service at EMF is outstanding if you do have a problem. If you're even thinking you might get an action job on your rifle, the very best way to get an EMF Hartford is to order it thru Steve Young aka Nate Kiowa Jones down in Port Arthur, TX - not far from you in Dell country. He's orders it from EMF (he's does their warranty work), does an action job on it, and sends to your local FFL of choice. He did the 20" carbine for me and it's an outstanding rifle. Here's a link to the sales page on his web site - http://stevesgunz.com/SalesSG.htm and he's a great guy to do business with. His prices include shipping.

The Winchester/Miroku 1892 rifles are also excellent rifles (I have 2 of those also - what can I say, I like the 1892) but a fair bit more expensive and higher quality than the Rossi's. They also have the rebounding hammer but that can be removed without much difficulty.

I'll second Jims comments re: Steve Young as an excellant source for truely fine tuned EMFs! The EMF guns are a solid performer and with Steves action job in them, which is surprizingly inexpensive, they are absolute marvels!!!!!

I just got a  '92 SS short rifle in 45LC form Steve Young.  It's as slick as it is good looking.
