Does anybody own a Model 13 or Model 65?  How do you like them?  Would they make a good concealed-carry weapon?

They are beautiful and ideal for concealed carry. I like the Model 13 a little better mainly because the front sight on the Model 65 disappears in the sunlight. I once had a pair of Model 13s when I was in law enforcement in the early 1990s. If I was going to carry one now, I'd put a tritium insert in the front sight.

I have a 3" M65. I picked it up as a used police turn in from the Mass State Police. I think it's great! the 3" gives a full ejector stroke for getting rid of mag cases. I paint the front sight on all my handguns with yellow Testor's model paint. It works for me. Yellow seems to be a contrasting color to almost everything, it's easy to pick up too. Mine is also the round butt version. It seem to fit my hand better.

3 inch model 13 was originally produced as special run for the FBI.  That was before they got into their "caliber of the month" phase.
The 3" model 13 is great.  Small enough for concealment (tho a bit hefty) and easy to control, even with .357 mag loads.  Totally reliable & nothing to break.  Ejects well even with the shorter ej rod.

:cb2: I'd love to have either, but if I saw a 3" M13 I'm afraid I'd have to snatch it up. Have a 2.5" M19 and a 3" M66, and someday that 3" M13 is gonna come along. I just know it.

I have both Model 13's in 3 and 4 inch. Both are fine handguns but my favorite is the 3 inch. Its very accurate and easier to carry than the 4 inch Model 13. Would not trade either for a M66 2 1/2 inch gun. Steve48[/b]

I've got a little 3-inch 65-5 that's the apple of my eye.  I've owned and shot hundreds of Smiths, and done trigger jobs on several dozen, but this one is my best yet.  Shooting anything else after getting used to this one is a real eye-opener.  I personally think the three-inch barrel is the perfect length for an "all-around" gun, it carries well, shoots soda cans at 50 yards like a target gun, and it looks and feels great.  If you're into blued guns, the 13 is a great choice, I just happen to love stainless.
