Stevens 200

Anyone tried out the Stevens 200 rifles yet? I know that they are basically Savages without the accu-trigger, but with a suggested retail of $316, a 200 in 7-08 would seem to be a good candidate for the kids' first deer rifle.

According to their website, the Stevens 200 is only available in long action/calibers.  No 7mm-08 is listed.

If you look at the menus on the lh column on the spec page, you can change it over to the short action series that includes the 308, 7-08, 243, 22-250 and 223.
Also, anyone have any experience with Mossberg bolt actions? The local Wallyworld has one in 270 for $250. Seems inexpensive, but are they junk?

F-lander, check some of the recent threads, there have been a couple on the Mossberg ATR which to my recollection was that the ATR seemed to be a shooter per those who owned and shot them.

Got it. I got to hold it and look it over, but the biggest thing I didn't like was the plastic feeling stock. BUT, if it shoots as well as they claim, it would make a good "truck gun".
