Any Tips For Panning In February
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:33:44 AM »
I can't wait any longer.  I'm heading out to try my hand once again at panning.  Probably gonna be a cold one but I've been cold before.  Anything different with the river levels being lower this time of year?  Do I pan out further into the river or do I try where the river runs during the summer? Any tips for this time of year would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know where your from but in Alaska the winter in the southern parts of the state , winter is prime prospecting time.  The run-off from the glaciers is minimal and the streams are real low.  The dredges can access parts of the river that they can't normaly get too.  Problem where I am is the snow level.  Five feet on the ground right now.

I'm in Colorado and we've been getting some nice weather. Rivers are flowing low and I think it would be a good time to try.

No luck this past weekend but I'm still a rookie at this and it definately has my interest.  Hence all the questions.

I notice you're in Alaska.  Ever heard about Dick Proeneke(sp) in the Twin Lakes area back in the day?
