Anyone seen/handled/bought/shot a 700 SPS?  Is the quality (stock, etc.) an improvement over the ADL?

I haven't seen one of the new SPS rifles to give it a try. I asked at a local shop this week. I was told the SPS was trotted out at the SHOT show, orders have been placed, but the guns haven't hit the shelves just yet. That said, I've seen a few on the online auction sites. I'm not sure why these sellers appear to have the SPS while local shops and big retailers don't have them yet. Has anyone here been able to handle the SPS, either at the SHOT show or in a shop?

I have been wanting to pick one up to look at as well. I may be off but in looking at the Rem 2005 catalog (hardcopy) it would appear that the stock is a 3 piece assembly on some models rather than a one piece molding. Some of the photo shots clearly show seams near the grip and forward of the receiver which I found interesting.

They are kind of heavy----the stock seems more rigid than the old ADL stock-----the J-lock is gone-----and the finish on the blued ones is that of the 870 Express line. The stainless ones appeared to be roughed up or bead blasted in some way.

Price was $429 and stainless was like $100 more----seems Remington is catching a clue finally-----I'll wait for some shooting reports before I form a complete opinion----not being a ginnea pig here.

Appears the competition is making Remington wake up-----the Tikka in particular----but also Ruger and Savage.

I've been looking for a 7-08 and saw a sps in the local Gander Mtn. for under $400 on sale. The stock looks quite crude with blemishes however, the gun looks like a regular 700. I'm interested more in accuracy of a 7-08 than beauty and given the out of box accuracy of most Rems I'll probably buy it. The Tikka looked sort of "plastic" and to get an extra clip cost a fortune..
