Montana Rifleman and Montana Rifle Co. experience/opinions?
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:24:17 AM »
I am considering using the Montana Rifleman custom barreled action and Montana Rifle Company as a basis for a custom rifle. Does anyone have any experience/opinions?

Thanks,

bigboar :-)

I have a friend that builds customs off their actions, both on his own and custom stocks guns for them.  So far, he says no complaints. They are however, heavy...he builds custom lightweights primarily and anything other than a lightened Remington is "heavy" to him.

I have not shot one so can't comment there. Sorry I can't offer more, but he is booked like a year out on custom rifles, so that must say something.

BigBoar - the Montana Rifleman installed a custom barrel on my Winchester Big Bore in 444 and matched that with a full length magazine tube.  She is incredibly accurate and smooth.  They perform a lot of gunsmithing work as well.  I have seen a couple of their actions and yep, they are solid.  I have no doubt they can easily handle anything you want to barrel it with.  Their products and workmanship are quality and I will be using them again.  HTH.  Mikey.

I had Montana build my left hand 358win on one of their actions and barrel.
I then had Serengeti stock it.  I can't say enough about either company, easy to work with, great communication, fair price and very good workmanship.
The gun is both a looker and shooter.

The upper left target were number 4-7 shots out of the new rifle. I use three factory loads to get on paper, then 3 hand loads. 4th shot was scope adjustment.  The second target was 7 shots load/fire without any cool down time.  So for the first 14 shots out of a new barrel with nothing more than an oil patch run down it when it came to me I think it's shoots darn well. Can't wait to see what it will do with a little work on the loads.
