Montana Rifleman barreled action any good?
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:21:59 AM »
I am considering using the Montana Rifleman custom barreled action and Montana Rifle Company as a basis for a custom rifle.  Does anyone have any experience/opinions?

Thanks,

bigboar :-)

Montana Rifleman barreled action any good?

Big Boar,

I received two of their actions last fall. I was well pleased with both of them. They are controlled round feed actions and very similar to the model 70. They could use some honing but what off the shelf action in that price range couldn't. Most of the factory rifles today could stand a few hours of action work.

I had them barrel the long action to 375 H&H. MRC is known for producing good barrels and this one shoots well. I have it at a local smith getting the express sights on and getting moly coated. I went with the moly coat over bluing because of the conditions here in Alaska (stainless is not an option, tastewise). The other action is a short standard bolt face. Both are left handed.

I would buy more actions from them. I intend to get one of their large prohunter actions and will be ordering another long action soon. Hope this helps. Mart

Like Mart, I am a "lefty" too.  My short action from Montana Rifle is VERY nice. I haven`t finished it yet but will one of these days. The action is one of the first[00300] and smooth!!!!!. I`m making a 25 Souper  out of it. I`m debating whether to make the stock out of some gorgeous walnut or do the sensible thing and use kevlar. I think you will be happy with the quality/service from MRC.Ask for Jeff.  Wish I had the $ and time to make a lefty 375 H&H.
