Love new 232, what sig do I get next?
« on: February 13, 2005, 07:53:25 AM »
Recently purchased a used 232 in stainless.  WOW is this a quality pistol!

First day I had it I was invited to shoot a PPC course, that evening the shooters where required to use there personal carry guns.  All I had was the new 232.

I purchased a box of blazer ammo and shot a 432 out of 460!   This gun stays close ever since that day.  I have good leather and have shot over a thousand reloads and not a single ftf or stove pipe!

The .380 is light IMO for personal defense, and I would like to check on another sig.  Possibly in .40 or .357 sig.  Could anybody steer me in the right direction.   I do not want the economy version (if there is one) quality is important, this may become my primary defense gun.

Thanks

226 226 226 ...... For personal defense just shoot the Speer Gold Dot 147gr. in 9mm.  Now, I know that a bunch of guys will chime in here and say that the 9 is too small, and that you should go with the 40 or the 357.  BUT the 9 has more than  enough with today's excellent personal defense ammo.  It's a lot easier to get 2 or 3 rounds in the "right" spot with the 9 anyway.  WDO

The P226 is a good choice. The other poster is right; the 9mm will be easier to master because of the lesser recoil. A 9mm JHP is nothing to sneeze at these days. Better a hit with a 9mm that a near miss with something else.

You might also look at the P228, a favorite of mine. It packs a bit more friendlier than the P226. It is a bit lighter than the P229. Of course the P228 only comes in 9mm. The P229 is offered in 9mm, .357 Sig and .40 S&W.

Look at the short trigger option if your hands are a bit small.

HappyHunter,
I feel the same way about my SS 232 [Hogue grips & night sights] It's my summertime carry.......my winter carry is a Sig 239 in 357 Sig. It's compact. realiable [that bottleneck round feeds flawlessly] and powerful.   I have Kimbers [45 & 10mm] Glocks [40's & 9's] S&W, Colt's, Ruger's but nothing gives me more confidence than that 239!       Jimbo

Thanks for advice.

I have and shoot five 9mm already (HighPower, and S&W), I also shoot 40 S&W, 10mm, and 45 acp in other pistols so the control issue is not a problem.

I will prefer the 40 or .357 as I only have one 40 (Beretta 96) and no .357 sig.

Thanks again for the advice, looks like I have some homework...

I bought my wife a Sig. 232 so she could shoot with me at the range. They are a nice gun. :D

:D Go with the 229 in .357 and pick up a .40 barrell.  I think once you have worked with them you will be convinced.

I got a 239 a few months ago and havent been able to put it down and carry much of anything else, its in 9mm which I have several, and over the years I have found I can aquire my target a lot easier with that caliber than the other popular calibers out there but thats just a personel choice :D    JIM

I to love the 239.
The small size is great for carry but it also fits well in my hand.
This is a problem with many small guns they just feel like there is not enough to hold on to.  Not so with the 239, like a glove even in my relatively large mitts.

Recoil is manageable even in 40 S&W but a bit stiffer than a large 9mm.

A 229 in 9mm is my choice. I own 5 SIGs and that one is a favorite.
