Restocking a Savage 110
« on: February 10, 2005, 06:12:35 AM »
I am planning on restocking my Savage 110 because I replaced the std. barrel with a heavy one.  Don't want to mess with hogging out the factory synthetic stock.  This rifle will be for bench rest type shooting only and not lugged thru the woods, so weight is not a problem.  I am interested in opinions at to what stock you used, how well it fit your action, how do you like it and would you do anything different if doing it again.  I will do the finish myself so prefinished stocks are not a factor.  Either synthetic or laminated wood.  Would prefer one with installed pillars or internal alum frame.  What say ye fellow shooters.

Rifle Stock

I just replaced the stock on my 110 FP with the Bell and Carlson Duramax stock. It dropped right in with just a small touch of minor inletting on the forestock to fully float the barrel. The stock can be purchased for about $100. There are many more more expensive alternatives available depending on what look you want and if you want a very nice stock. The B&C stock is much stiffer than the factory stock.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I understand that the Bell and Carlson Duramax stocks are pretty dang nice for the money. I would not be afraid of them at all. And they are more beefy than the standard stock. If you have money to spend - the McMillan is one of the best stock around. (I think.)  BUT - it may cost you more than your rifle did. This is one rifle (savage) and stock (McMillan) that I will have the rest of my life.
