Accuracy of 7600 carbine in .35 Remington?
« on: February 03, 2005, 06:18:11 AM »
What kind of accuracy can one expect from the 18 1/2" carbine version of this in .35 Remington?

I've got a terribly strong urge to get one of these and put a straight 4X Burris on it.

Please advise.  Any and all help is appreciated.

I have a 35 Rem Carbine. I can ring bullseye's with it fairly easilyat 100 yards. The rifle is a better shooter than I'll ever be. I have noticed that the barrel is a bit thicker than the standard Remington 7600. I believe that this helps the accuracy. My 35 wears Leupold Vari-X II 1-4*20 on it. If you have a chance to get one, get it. You won't be disappointed!

I bought mine in October of '03 but did not get the scope on it until October of '04. I mounted a Nikon 2X7 X 32mm Prostaff scope using the see thru mounts. I wish I had a camera to post a picture of the target, I saved it. Using the Remington 200 grain soft points I shot a true 1" 3 shot group at 100 yards directly in the bull using one of those orange and white visible impact targets. I killed a doe with it this year. No long shot, just about 35 to 40 yards. Dead as a stone. The rifle carried very well in the woods, I highly recommend it! MIKE.

As 257robt pointed out, and few notice, the carbine barrel tends to be a little thicker than the 22 inch barrel, and this has held true back to the 760's.  Coupled with the fact that a short barrel is inherently stiffer anyway, they tend to be very accurate, I have a 760 in 30-06 topped with a 1.5X 5 Leupold Vari X III and the gun is extremely accurate, has accounted for more than a few whtietails, some were extremely tough shots. Yes it can group bullets inside an inch on sandbags, but more importantly, it hits & kills whatever I shoot it at.
Sincerely,

I bought one of the rem carbines in .35rem, and for the limited shooting I have done with it the gun has shown to be accurate. I put a peep sight on mine and have fired some 2-1/5 inch groups. These are with loads I worked up for my other rifle. As the weather gets better I'll find out more about the rifle. If this proves to be the best this rifle shoots I can easily live with this as seldom do we get shots over 100 yards and this would be more then capable. good luck.

Thanks for the info, folks.  Sounds like the gun is easily capable of better than hunting grade accuracy.

These carbines are very accurate.  Mine likes 200gr Hornady RN and a stiff load of IMR4895.  I put a 1-4X Leupold SHOTGUN HD scope on it.  It's the cat's meow for deer and bear.
