After much deliberation between synthetic and wood, I finally found an answer.  Picked her up for $600.00.  Although I could have got a 7mWSM or 270 WSM for $540 in classic stainless, but by god, I wanted a 270 WIN. Just couldn't go for the WSM marketing trick.  BTW, now I have the "Rifleman's Rifle"!

Here she is:

 

I think the dark wood is a little unique compared to all the light wood featherweights I've seen. Might hide the character marks a little better!  

I couldn't find a used featherweight in 270 WIN for the life of me and this was the best deal I could find for a new one.

So, what do you all think of my new princess?  you can be honest!

Congratulations!! That is a sharp rifle. I have never owned a Model 70, but have admired them for years.

They are a great rifle to shoot.  I have an older one in .308 and the only thing that outshoots it are the ones that have had work done to them.

Wonderful choice! I have two Featherweights. One is in 7X57, the other in 6.5X55. I love them both. I would like to find one on 270 Winchester also. That is a classic combination. 8)

Nice gun. My 270 featherweight happens to kick worse than my 444 and 7 Mag though. It will slay some deer though. I took the worse beating from that gun in just 8 shots two weeks ago at the range. Scared the hell out of me because I hadn't shot it in yeearrrss. I remember why now!

I have an older featherweight before the claw.It is 30-06.It is a smooth feader,reliable and very accurate.I have to wear a past recoil pad at the bench for shooting 180's but in the field,recoil is no consern.I like the everything about the Winchester.A 270 in that rifle would be the cat's meow.

Congrats!!

Mine is chambered in 300WSM and I have loved it since the first time I shot it.

These guns usually have beautiful wood......Mine has a very nice tiger striping in the grain.  Very unusual, as I haven't seen another like it since I bought it.  

I have taken three elk, and seven deer (Muleys and Whitetails) in the six years I have owned this gun.  

I think you'll be very pleased with your new rifle.

I have an A-bolt that 300 WSM that weighs a pound less than the featherweight when scopes are attached.  I figure if I can handle the A-bolt, I can handle this .270 WIN.  I HOPE:)

Congrats on the rifle.  As for the .270 Win. vs. .270WSM, both are excellent cartridges, and now there is a lot of factory ammo available for the .270WSM, but you still made a fine choice in the .270 Winchester nonetheless.

I'd buy a left hand featherweight in a minute if they offered it in 7x57.  Even at the custom shop price this caliber isn't offered in a lefty and the factory stock lefty's are only offered in the WSM calibers.
 
I think these rifles are the best looking ones I've ever seen.

I've got one in 7mmWSM on lay-away right now. As soon as I get over the crud, I plan on getting it out. Right now though, I am just struggling to stay awake, I could care less about my gun. I'm sure that will change in a day or 2 though.

The Winchester Featherweights are some of the best looking rifles on the market. They are also some of the best handling bolt-actions.

My son has one chambered to the 7X57 and I have one chambered to the 6.5X55.

You got a beauty, there!!!

Ur's is better looking than my 6 3/4 lb Super Shadow 270 WSM, Mine was $400 and shoots 3/4" groups. Great rifles! :D

Great looking rifle now what have you deiced on scope's. I love the featherweight's too had a early one in 243 my 270 model 70 is a SM with a boss shoot's 1/2 to 3/4 and is one of my favorite rigs.

Looks like you should have laid some money on it the first time you saw it, then they can't sell it out from under you.  However, if you did have money on it, then you should have a receipt with the rifles serial number on.  If you do indeed have a receipt with the serial number, you can insist on them getting your rifle back.

Since it's been years since I bought my Featherweight, what is the going price for a new one now?  It shouldn't be much more than $600 and I'm sure there are plenty of them around..
