Need some help from Canadian Hunters
« on: February 01, 2005, 04:47:29 PM »
I have hunted Saskatchewan and Manitoba for the last 8 years.  This year 2005 I thought I would have to skip do to circumstances but I may not.  So I have thought of Alberta because I have never been there.  For a chance at a B. and C. Whitetail should I go there or stay in Saskatchewan?  I am a stand hunter and have the patience to wait them out.  I am 56 so a lot of physical climbing and deep snow maybe a problem.  Any thoughts?  Names of a potential Outfitter would be great.  If you think I should not go to Alberta please tell me.

alberta is also a great choice. most area's are tag specific though. a friend from ontario hunted there for whitetails, but his outfitter was in mulie country. I notice your from minnesota, so you obviously know  you need an outfitter.I used to work for a well known outfitter as a guide, and the best advice he gave to clients is that a good outfitter should be booked 2-3 years in advance. When I asked him why he didn't  do the sporting shows looking for business, he said  "don't need to. word of mouth and personal referrals keep me booked year after year."  if an outfitter needs to go to shows year after year looking for business, somethings wrong. also, check with the alberta lodge and outfitters assoc. after you choose an outfitter. ask if any complaints or fish and game violations against them. you also might want to ask omega. he's from alberta, and has a t.v. show on hunting and fishing. he could probably point you in the right direction. good luck!!
