284 Win load data
« on: February 01, 2005, 08:09:51 AM »
I need some help from my old lever friends.  I was fortunate enough to acquire a nice Savage Model 99F in 284 Winchester.  Its a 1966 model and looks in nice shape.  I have been looking for this caliber in either the Model 88 or 99 for some time and I finally found one I could afford.

I paid $600 for it, and what I continue to hear is this is a good price for a decent issue. Available 284s are getting more rare to find, for the few that are out there.

I went through the loading manuals and IMR 4350 appears to be the loaders choice along with a 140 grain bullet.  Does anybody have any recommendations for a successfull load they have use?? :-)

I have found that H4831sc works for me the best.  Go to http://www.hodgdon.com/data/rifle/284win.php and check out the loads Hodgdon has listed.  Good, safe, sound loads.  Lawdog
