Four of us went north to Pippin Lake and caught about 24 rainbows.  Beautiful fish!  14-22" and nice red meat.

Last week I heard the smelt were in the Wood and Nushagak R. but the ice wasn't very safe.  Now its -20 and the ice is probably safe but I sure don't want to fool around in the breeze in those temps.  Supposed to warm a bit by Monday - mabye I can get out.

I haven't done any icefishing in a year or two. I might give it a try this weekend.

I'm brand new here. In fact this is my first post. I'm not much of a fisherman these days as hunting has obsessed me since I became old enough to drive and hunt big game. Those that know me will find it rather ironic that my first post would be fishing related. However, I do ocassionally get out and do a little fishing. A couple weeks ago I tried something I had only heard about. Like I said I'd rather hunt than fish so this new method sort'a appealed to me. It is legal to spear fish northern pike here in Montana. A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to go for several years now and he finally talked me into it. It reminded me very much of hunting. Especially hunting black bear over bait. Lot's of boredom waiting, but over the top excitement when the bear or fish shows up. So here's some photos of my first go-round. Anyway it was fun enough that I'll likely do it again. In short, it's the kind of fishing/hunting I like.

My computer has the flu so I am at work on a Sunday catcing up.

I did not see any caribou up that way but they are there.  Gut pile on the ice and track all over.  They are around and so is F&G.
