Thanks Deadeye...I sent them a e-mail and we'll see what they have to say...most interested in the 30-30 and the 30-06...it looks like a much cheaper alternative...to casting my own...their prices seem reasonable...

Hey Quick:

Pick up this months edition of Handloaders magazine...they got a real nice article on the 45-90 in it...and much to my amazement...they have a article on cast bullets in the 30-30 too :-D

Mac,

Did you notice the different twist rates they listed for the 45-90 in that article? Anywhere from 1-32" to 1-18", quite a variation.

Ok - I got some good news and some bad news ......

The good news is that "The Fist of God" is showing some promise!

First pic is a three round group at approximately 100 yards.  We were in the mountains and I don't have a rangefinder

The bad news is that we had some disappointing results with my son's new NEF 17hmr.  The second pic says it all - keyholing at ALL distances.  I was shooting Hornady V-Maxes.  I will post a seperate thread about that problem.  Suggestions are welcome here though.

Great shootin on the 45-70.....the hmr rounds remind me of a trip the range one time shooting a 7mm mauser, all rounds were keyholing, come to find out there was a bush mid range at the edge of the range causing the bullets to upset before they hit the paper. It took a bunch of shootin before we figured it out, moved over one seat at the bench and it quit doing it! If that's not the case, I'd look at the muzzle and make sure the crown looks good, have never ever seen anyone write about a hmr keyholing. Are you sure it's a .17hmr barrel and not a 22mag barrel??? I have read of an NEF rifle being built with rifling in only part of the barrel recently, worth a look.

hope this helps,

Tim

There's no doubt that it's a bad barrel :(   Don't waste your time or money on various ammo.

If any rifle is going to keyhole it will start right out of the muzzle and show up within 50 yards.  Either that or waaaay down range when it drops under the speed of sound.

It beats me how NEF can deliver a barrel like that.   Where's the quality control?
