I'm not very familiar with shotguns as i only use one for quail hunting now and then, I much prefer fine quality varmit rifles and handguns.
my question is what shotgun should i replace the SKB with?
some new fangled auto that shoots everything? or another double, if so who makes good ones now??? im not familiar whith what is available and what is good quality and what is junk.
Comments and idea are very much appreciated!!!!!!!

That old SKB was a fine double gun. I've been wanting a 280 since they came out with them. Tried to order one but too late as it was no longer available by then. Saw one at a gunshow but by then prices had sky rocketed to a level I wasn't willing to pay.

While not of same quality the Stoeger guns are good solid guns. They take a bit of smoothing up but work really well for under $500. My local dealer has a BSA import made in Spain that looks to be as good or better than the old SKBs but the tag reads $1000 on it. I look at it and pick up up each time go in and if he don't hurry up and sell it I fear it will come home with me.

Weatherby has one I'd truly love to own but I think it might be on the wrong side of $2000. Take a look at the reissue of the old LC Smith line by Marlin/NEF. Nice but not cheap.

Of all the lower priced ones around the Stoeger line impresses me most. I really like mine.

"reissue of the old LC Smith line by Marlin/NEF"
I wish I'd known of this existance a couple of months ago!!
I've been told that Weatherbys are made by SKB
New Remingtons have an dull oil finish and matt finish barrel.  They not only not don't look good, but I believe stock dementions have changed, they don't fit me at all any more.
Most of the shows I've been to has had a Browning BSS or two for 1200 or less and a few Berettas for just a bit more.
My new gun for last year was a new shotgun or a new flintlock rifle, the shotgun lost out to a stick of curley maple.
Maybe next year.

Two months ago Marlin/NEF had not yet made the announcement. I've not yet heard for sure where these guns are being made much less by whom. I was under the impression the Weatherby was made in Italy. Seems I've heard the name of the maker but it escapes me at the moment. Pretty sure it's not SKB but if it was that would be good too as SKB is a fine gun maker for sure.
