Everyone knows that I'm a big Tikka/Sako fan, but then again I'm a big Remington 700 fan as well.

The Model 7 is a good comparison against the Sako Finnlight - although the Sako almost double in price.  The 7mm-08 is one of my favorite deer cartridges, and you really can't go wrong with either rifle.

To some people's surprise, I'm going to give the nod to the Remington M7 on this one - but make sure it's the stainless synthetic version.  You may have to do some minor gunsmith work to it - like trigger job, etc., but it should prove to be a real winner for you.

I'm quite surprised that no one else has yet to add their two cents here.  In any event, have you made a decision one way or the other?  Have you held both rifles and tried them out?

I have a real affinity for Sako rifles, but can't say that I have been excited about the Finnlight.  From my very limited exposure to any of the "light" rifles, Sako and Weatherby included, I think they lack a little in the accuracy dept.  But then I like to shoot my hunting rifles off of the bench quite a bit and these rifles are not made for the bench but for carry.  Now of course both have an MOA accuracy guarantee from the manufacturer shooting their cartridges at their plant,  so maybe the people that traded the rifles in for standard weight rifles just were not adept enough to get all that these rifles have to offer.  But maybe I am just feeling a little cranky tonite, because I am not  impressed with the newer model 7's either. :(

Longwinters,

I know that Sako has a 1MOA guaranty, but did you say that Remington also has a 1MOA guaranty as well?

Let me throw one other into the pile. What is yall's opinion on the new Montana S/S from Kimber in a 7mm-08. I just bought one of their .22 LR and that sucker will literally shoot one hole groups. jcurrie

Sorry if I was confusing.  I was talking about Sako and Weatherby at that point.

I am a big Sako fan, so I bought a Finnlight in .308 and boy was I disappointed. I couldn't get it to shoot better than a 2 1/2 inch group. I sent it back and they tightened the stock screws and said it was fixed. It did shoot a little better, but was always very finicky. It would only group with Federal Premium 150 gr Nosler Partitions. The gun weight was perfect, and it felt awsome, but it just wasn't the same as the good old model 75s/s. It really did pain me to get rid of that gun, but when your paying that kind of money you had better be getting that kind of accuracy. Needless to say I put down my money on a Sako 75s/s in .308, and as far as the one extra pound and 2 extra inches, I'll deal with it just knowing that my bullet is going where I intended it to.
