Hello everybody, I have a model 15 Monson .357, I have had this pistol for nearly 20 years, it has always been a great shooter. The wifes pistol. Yep she DID take it away from me, and told me to go find my own. Gotta love a gal like that!
The pistol has recently stopped shooting single action, pull the hammer back and it falls like the trigger was pulled, UNLOADED and working the trigger, single action, whatever else the double action works great. I have not shot it since it started acting up. I took it to a local smith, after about 4 months on his shelf, still not having been touched, I brought it home.
Is there any Western KY. smiths that you would trust your DW with? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have not tried taking the side plate off, first I don't know how, secondly I am afraid of losing any small pieces. I am mechanically oriented, I just don't want to mess anything up, since I am no smith!

Halfbreed,
Dan Wesson still services the older guns. I would send it off to them. Any competent gunsmith should be able to fix the problem. Parts are still available from DW because for the most part they are the same as the new guns.

Let us know how it works out.

Rolltide, I took the DW to Gander Mountain today. They are going to clean and inspect it for me, then call me to tell me what they found during the inspection. They said they would know something in a few days, then call immediatly. As well as not do any repairs until I authorized them to do so. Now it is a wait and see thing. Just keeping everybody informed. This store is only a few months old here. Looks like they are trying to get the job done. Halfbreed

Well this morning they called and let me know it is ready to pick up. Seems all it needed was a thorough cleaning. He took the side plate off it, there was no damage to the sear or anything, it just had a little debris in there. Needless to say I am a happy camper. It is functioning as smooth as the day I bought it. Halfbreed

Great news halfbreed. I really like to try to use competent local gunsmiths for that very reason. I told the last competent gunsmith that did some work for me that his breed was getting hard to find. He replied "Yeah, all the good gunsmiths starved to death years ago."

Rolltide, I always try to use local tradesman whenever possible. I like to look them in the eyes when I am asking

Also I don't trust UPS with any package, especially firearms! They have proven they can't be trusted and upper management will not do anything about problems in my personal experience, or if they do, it has been after way too many hassles. It was a good experience with Gander Mountain smiths. AND glad to keep you posted. Halfbreed
