Non-ported guide guns?
« on: January 22, 2005, 07:46:36 AM »
Couple years ago I'd heard that guide guns were to be offered without the ports. Haven't checked up close recently--do most new ones now come without ports or with? Used market guide guns mostly have ports probably? Apologies to folks that prefer the ports, but I'd be looking for non-ported.

Agree totally.  Buddy has a ported Guide Gun and I don't like shooting it.  Rather put up with the recoil than the noise.

STW,

All Guide Guns are no longer ported, due to the noise problem.  In fact there for a while Marlin had an offer going that any that owned a ported Guide Gun, for a small charge, could get a barrel swap.  Un-ported barrel for their ported one.  I don't know if Marlin is still making that offer but one of our club members went for the swap and is much happier now.  Lawdog

I have one without the ports and with heavy loads it was wicked with the stock recoil pad. I have swapped that out for a Limb Saver pad and I installed a Breako mercury recoil reducer that has helped alot.
