Aftermarket Recoil Pads for the Tikka T3?
« on: January 20, 2005, 05:51:19 AM »
I just received my Tikka T3 SS in .300WSM and I know that the factory recoil pad isn't going to do much to tame the recoil for this light rifle.

Do any of you know who, if any, makes a pre-fit after market recoil pad for the T3, like Pachmyer, Simms, etc.?

Zachary, Somewhere I heard that the Sims pad for the Winchester 1300 pump shotgun had the same profile as that of the Tikka. I would just remove the pad and trace the buttstock and look at the templates at Simms site. I believe they have an 800 number as well and are usually very helpful on the phone.

Zachary, Simms makes a recoil pad for the T3. I got one when I bought my T3 300wsm. Works great, less recoil than my .06. I have the box around somewhere I will try to get the number off of it as it fits 5 or 6 applications.

Sims now shows part# 10112 as a fit for the Tikka.
I printed the template and matched it up to my tikka pad that I removed. It seems to match up.
I currently have thee pad for the winchester 1300 on my T3 synthetic and the fit is OK.
I may switch to the listed model since it may fit perfectly.

Zachary-

Have you had a chance to shoot her?  How does the shoulder like it?

I bought a T3 in 338 a couple of months ago, with burris 2 piece bases and pos-align rings up top with a Leupold VX-3 3.5x10..

Well, get to the range, take a few shots.. Shooting well.

Take another 3, all over the paper.. I'm thinking 'What In The...'

Upon recoil, one of the two rear base screws SNAPPED off!  Allowed that scope to fly forward and throw everything off.  I believe that part was due to the pos-align inserts which I never plan on using again.

I am ordering a one piece Warne base from Brownells, and their rings. (I should have done this in the first place with a rifle like this)

In any case, I got a few shots off and she hurt

Hopefully next month I can get a better feel of the rifle with the new bases and rings.

Hunting guy,

I haven't had a chance to shoot the T3 300WSM yet, but didn't you use the rings that came with your T3?

I don't know if I am going to use those rings or just get Talley rings.

Zachary-

If memory serves me right (I will have the look), the rings by Tikka are silver and I don't think I was real impressed with their quality.  I ended up putting matte black rings, bases, and scope on it.

I am surprised how much power this gun really has, I think the Warne rings and bases will serve me well - I was looking at Talley as well.

On the Limbsaver.com site, they have gun models listed with which pad fits.  Wolfe is right, straight from the site:

Tika®
Most Models (check templates) Synth 10112

Looks like im going to be calling them soon  :)  That thing is just a pain (literally) to take more than a couple shots from!!

I emailed the webmaster and let him know that it is spelled 'Tikka'.  Just got a response:

Thanks Jason,
I'll get that on my list to correct.

That 1/4 inch thick rubber recoil pad they come with might as well not even be there. It looks soft but it sure ain't!

Tell me about it.  I was taking a good look at it when I first got it and I KNEW that I was gonna replace it before I shot it. :)

I put a limbsaver (Win. 1300 syn. shotgun) on my Tikka t3 stainless/syn. in .30-06. This pad fits great and takes a lot of the punch out of recoil.

Zachary, This is a very good company to deal with. Been ordering from them for a long, long time without a hitch. They are very cheap too just look at the name of the company, it's usually true.

Guys, important question:

I haven't replaced the recoil pad on any of my rifles in the past but am buying that limbsaver for my Tikka.

How do I get the old pad off and the new one on?    It looks as though it 'plugs' into it.

Instructions and help would be great!! :D

Thanks,

There are two little holes in the rubber butt pad. Put some oil or vaseline on a screwdriver and push it into the hole. There are two screws holding the pad to the stock. Remove the two screws and the old pad comes rite off. As for the new pad just reverse these directions. Use the oil or vaseline to keep from tearing up the rubber with the screws and/or the driver.
I am almost positive the screws are straights (not phillips)

I'll bet you can find that pad at Walmart. It's the same pad for the Remington BDL. I saw some sims pad at my local Walmart but I didn't look to see what rifles they were for.

Oh and btw I believe the screws are in fact phillps.

Hunting guy,

I just looked at the Tikka manual that came with the gun.  In the booklet, it gives a very precise diagram of each and every,  and I mean each and ever, piece and part.  As such, it shows how simple it is to remove the recoil pad.

WAIT!!!!! DON'T BUY THE PAD!!!!!!

Just got off the phone with LimbSaver, and this is what I was told:

The model 10112 pad fits the Tikka well, but our engineers are about to release in the middle of next month a brand new pad for the Tikka T3 that fits even better.  The model number will be 10011.  You may want to wait, as the engineers have been bragging about it.

So I guess I will hold off until next month and see what is released.

Just thought I would give you the heads up  :D

Oh man!  I already ordered the pad and it's already on its way to me.

So now the question is, how well does the 10112 pad fit the Tikka?

Hey Zachary your very welcome for the link. As to how the 10112 pad fits I can't tell you. I used the 10301 pad for the Winchester 1300 synthetic shotgun. Here are some pis of mine.

It fits very well, there is a very little over hang at the bottom but it's hardly even noticable. Here is what I did to cover any imperfecions.

Well, the fit on your T3 looks good to me.  Yea, the overhand is really not noticeable.  I hope my pad fits just as good on my T3.

Thanks again for the pics!

Zachary-

I am sure it will fit just fine, or they wouldn't be selling it.

Also, the screws are philips, not flat heads.

Post some pics when you got her on  :D

The Simms pad that I got was designed to fit the Remington BDL wood stock.  I just remembered that I have my father's .30-06 in BDL wood that has a steel (yes, steel) plate on the but.  Since Sims is coming out with a pad specifically for the Tikka T3, I'll just mount the one coming my way to the Remington, and just wait a month or so until the new one comes out.

There you go two birds one stone. Your dad will be be (VERRY) happy with that deal, from steel to a Sims pad. He will probably think you gave him back the wrong gun when he pulls the trigger.
Zachary, you have so many guns you could probably buy one of each and have something they would fit on lol.
