Anyone here ever used Berry's BFG bullets listed on Cabela's web site? If so, what were you shooting them in, and how did the do. Accuracy and game performance.

Ive been using the .357 cal, 158 gr FP in my Ruger GP100. In the .38s they are pretty good accuracy wise, but the velocities of the .357 Mags have caused less than desireable results so far. Ive also loaded Berrys for my Uncle in his PC4 carbine in .40 S&W. VERY BAD RESULTS! I had cointacted Berrys and they told me to generally keep the velocities of any of their plated bullets under 1000fps. My Uncles .40s were clocking on the chrony at about 1500fps (if I recall.) We thought it was just the gun for the longest time (the PC4 does not have what we would call a match trigger :lol: .) But when we switched to so Remmy Golden sabers groups shrunk considerably. I think they are just plain not made for high velocity loads. Ive been considering trying the .451s for my ACP. But I think Ill be switching over to bulk pack Noslers instead.

Thanks for the reply NH, I was thinking about trying the 200 gr 11mm in my 209x45 muzzle loader. After reading your post I'll probably go with Hornady's XTP. They've worked very well in my 44 Mag Contender barrel.

They are ok but plated only very thin plateing should be loaded as if a plain lead bullet, I would think they would be ok in a sabot for your muzzleloader.

If you plan on using them for your 209x45 they might actually do just fine. I think the reason the faster they go the worse the results is that, because they are swaged then plated the lead is super soft. I think at higher speeds the rifling might not be gripping very well. But in a plastic sabot cup you shouldnt have to worry about this and they might make dandy practice/plinking loads. I would stick with the Hornadys for general hunting because the Berrys Hollow points, at least in my opinion, might be too soft for good game preformance.
