.30 U.S. "WHISPER" Carbine.
« on: January 18, 2005, 04:41:19 AM »
Anyone tried this?
I have a .30 carbine (2 actually)But one of them
I plugged the gas port and created a straight pull
bolt action out of it. (REASON IS CLASSIFIED 8) ).
But anyhow, I worked up a load of 6.5 grains of unique
behind a 150 grain Ballistic tip. I wanted less noise.
This was created to dispatch ferral(sp) dogs and is pretty
effective. Anyone else tried heavy projectiles in .30 carbine

You need to check out the "Gunwriter's" site.  I think it is hosted in Finland, and he wanders quite a bit, but it is very interesting reading. Here is part of the site where you might find more information on 'light loads'

30 Carbine?

Yeouch...I can understand the need to make it quieter...30 carbine has got to be one of the more obnoxiously noisy rounds, but I would start with something else to create a Whisper that is not so notorious for being loud to start off with.
....make it count

I played around with 173 gr cast lead flatnose bullets and they were fun.

Hicard,

What was you accuracy like? I would think the "dirty-thirty" would not like anything over 140-150g bullets. Just not a fast enough twist.

Didn't really try to target it much.  Just did a little plinking with it, it worked the action so I was happy.  Never went any further with it.
