talked to the guy, he still has it and it probably won't be going anywhere before next friday. what is the best tang sight to get for this and where can i find a good selection of '92 parts? i must stay off the internet for 2 weeks, found an original .44-40 saddle ring carbine in decent condition for $450 CDN, but had to tell myself " you can't hunt small game with it, stick with the full lentgh .25-20..."

Marble's offers tang sights that are windage as well as elevation adjustable, check Brownell's. The Lyman is only elevation adjustable. They're pricey, but worth it,IMO.jd45.

about a month back i lost a filling and now my wisdom teeth have come in. i've been in extreme pain off and on for about 2 weeks. i've got to get them pulled and the filling replaced and that just ate up my gun budget and a lot more. some days it seems like nothing in my life ever goes right.

Hey Kevin, sorry to hear about your mouth full of trouble. Will your dentist be yanking the wisdoms? Not a lot of fun walking around with a mouth full of stitches for a few weeks.

On the '92, sorry I couldn't help you out, did you get anyone else to look at it? If not, I'll do it for the air fare

My '92 is in 44-40. No problem using it on small game, but check your regs for caliber restrictions. I use hard cast bullets. No expansion on rabbits, does a nicer job even on grouse than high velocity stuff.

well maybe it's not so bad. turns out that pizza hut has a dental plan and i'm eligible. and i don't think it's the wisdom teeth that are causing me pain, but a real bad cavity. it only hurts real bad when i eat suger, so no more for a while.

foxer said he'd take a look at the '92 but i told him to wait until after i knew what was going on with my teeth. i'll still be getting it, just not as soon. i'll stick with the .25-20, thats what i wanted in the first place and i don't really care for the looks of the carbine. which one would you pick?

The carbine looks much like mine, but it's in better shape than mine. The wood they used for carbine stocks didn't stand up as well as the stuff they used for rifles IMO.
I deffinatly like the looks of the rifle best. But I do like the 44-40, but then I'm a dedicated close range deer hunter

well, as for the teeth it appears the pizza hut dental plan will cover it. i need 2 root canals, one on each side. wisdom teeth are coming in fine. but i still have to pay up front and then the insurance company reimburses me. so if i want to go camping in the spring and fix up my car it looks like i'll have to put the '92 purchase on hold. i could still get the cheap 94/22 norinco clone that marstar has, and satisfy my lever gun craving that way.

I don't know your financial situation, Kevin, but you should give both those guns a hard look. The rifle has Walnut furniture, the carbine has Beech or Gumwood, as they say. Both are good looking shooter/hunter grade guns and are very reasonably priced. Down here in the States the price would start at double that, US. If I was you, I'd work awful hard to be able to have the pair.

it all depends on my teeth. i really want the .25-20 but don't have much interest ( at the moment) in the carbine. what i'm going to do for a .44-40 is ask my great aunt and find out if my deceased great uncles '73 winchester is still around. i think it's buried in the back of his workshop/garage but she is probably afraid she'll get in to trouble with the law because she is not a licenced firearms owner and the rifle ain't registered.

What a farce the gun registry is. there are millions of unregistered guns, just like that, stuck away in the corner of the garage, basement, hunt camp,whatever. They will never all be registered.

WhyNHell would an 1873 have to be registered, anyway? Surely, even a system as arcane as Canada's will recognize an antique. I done unnerstan'?

even after reading all the laws and discussing then over and over, i still don't understand it all either. to be an antique in Canada a firearm has to be made before 1898 and be a rimfire or a centerfire caliber over 8.3mm, and be a non-repeating firearm. stupid, eh?

I suppose that under the laws of the Commonwealth your 1873 Winchester is an assault weapon, and could be considered the "weapon of choice" for criminals and terrorists. Whatever happened to the good 'ol dependable AK-47? Sorry, Kevin, it's no joke that you are suffering under the Canadian Thumbscrews.
