What is favorite caliber handi rifle and what is the best groups you have shot with it?

It's probably my 45-70, and I have shot a perfect one hole group!!! With the first bullet of course, the one that counts!!!....<><.... :-D

Ditto! The .45-70 and it does make nice one shot groups!!! Best 3 shot group shot was 2¾" at 200yds. :grin:

Hmm...seems I'm outnumbered by the big-bore guys -- Mine is the .223 Ultra with a 24" bull barrel. Best groups have been 5/8" at 100, and 1" at 200 yards. I'm going to get some bags to create a solid rest, and see whether I can shrink them to one ragged hole. Overall, though, I think it's a great caliber for smaller critters, easy to shoot, inexpensive as well, and just a perfect all-around gun for these parts. I've got my eye on a .45-70 since I saw one at Sportsman's Warehouse; I was looking at the Marlin levergun, but there's just something about the Handis... :-) :-D

I have two 30-30 NEF/H&R's. I use Barnes X bullets in 130 and 140 grain. I do little benchshooting except to work up loads and check velocity. Both my rifles will do MOA @ 100yds if I do my part from the bench, but I do most of my shooting freehand so as to emulate hunting situations.

I have shot 16 whitetail bucks and 6 does since I strted using handi's as my only hunting rifles

Mac - You get the 35 Whelen from the factory or have one rechambered? I seem to recall H&R used to make the Whelen.

my fovorite would be my 58 frt. stuffer i built 25 years ago ,for a h&r that used shotgun primers....now?

??my 72 cal frt stuffer that shoots a 12 ga. slug in a 12 ga. wad and its rainbow trajectory of coarse.... :-D minute of bambi...,<at 30 yds.> :-D :-D

Well, I only have experience with one Handi rifle in .280 Rem. but I like it just fine. I can shoot 1-1/4" groups using cheap 140gr Remington Core-Lokts if I have all my ducks in a row.

Now my .410 (a caliber technically speaking) Topper is not a rifle of course, but if you would allow me the liberty of stretching the question a little to include smooth bores, would get my nod as my favorite. It shoots nice evenly dispersed patterns with 2-1/2" #6 Remington Game Loads and 3" #7-1/2 Winchester Super X Long Range shells. Tree rats and cotton tails tremble at the mere mention of my Topper. :wink:

My favorite barrel is the 280,my most accurate is the 223,but the 280 will handle any range with more energy than all the rest of my barrels. The 223 shoots a little over .05" but it took over 400 rds. of 5 different bullets and 7 different powders,to get it there. Digger

Didn't take much thinking, the 45/70 hands down. 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with Horn. 350gr. RNSP over 58.0gr. of Varget.

Then it is um....uh.......uh.......um...... the one I'm puzzling over at the moment, that would be my 38-55 and it ain't even back from H&R yet.

Actually I bought it off of Guns America...I kept it a while,bought dies,brass,bullets which I still have and then sold it to a fellow GBO member .

My 25-06 would probably leave me if I told the world I liked my beautiful new 223 HB Handi more. And vice verse. So far, the 223 is looking like it is more accurate at 100y than the 25.

I like both of my NEF's equally....they each serve a purpose in my collection of firearms.

How much does that '06 setup weigh as is? I'm very seriously considering an almost identical setup for a mountain rifle.

It's either that or get a 30-30 and later convert it to 375 Win. Most likely will get an '06, though, since I can use it right away. My only difference would be a 4X Bushnell scope.
