Up here, it's pretty much moose, black bear, and whitetails. The deer run faily large, with 200 lb deer fairly common.
I might get to see an Elk if I was lucky, but if I shot one, (and I would not) I'd get stung to the tune of 25000 dollar fine. :eek:

We should be allowed to hunt Woodland Caribou in this province as well, but the government (in its wisdom) has decided to reserve them for the natives to poach. There are some hints that we may someday see a hunt for these on an island in Hudsons Bay - apparently the natives don`t poach there.

I was canoeing on the north shore of Superior, and found woodland Cariboo tracks. Good thing I had a lead on the old hound, she went bonkers.
Too bad there isn't a season on politicians, you'd be in the thick of it.

Well we've got whitetails, and more whitetails, and if your lucky you can draw a black bear permit, and if your really really lucky (like 300 out of 40,000) you might draw an elk permit. So I pretty much stick to hunting whitetails and an out of control wild turkey population.

The recently re-introduced turkey population in Southern Ontario, is doing very well, but where I live, they are still a bit rare, and I have yet to get a chance at one.

While not the east we are pretty diverse with; Deer: Blacktail, Mule Deer, Whitetail; Moose; Roosevelt Elk & Rocky Mountain Elk; Big Horn Sheep; Rocky Mountain Goat; Black Bear & Grizzlies (Protected); Cougar, and finally Turkeys: Easterns, Merriams, & Rio Grandes.

In Massachusetts, we can legally hunt white tailed deer, eastern wild turkey and black bear during the appropriate seasons. In northern New England, that is Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, you can add the moose. The tricky part is getting the permits as they are given out in a lottery. I got one last year in NH and I figure it is a once in a lifetime chance. I'll be able to apply again in three years.

Good luck with that, I've applied the last 4 years and have yet to be drawn, however one of my uncles seems to get lucky and get one about every 5 years, maybe this is the year....

You got that right. I hunted with two other couples. One couple is up for their second time around. Another, is something like their third since NH started the hunts. Either he or his wife gets chosen. Somehow they get their share.

I hope that I get Maine. I would like to handgun another moose.

We are allowed to party hunt for moose. That is a group applies for a tag. In some areas, there is a guaranteed group size. That means if you have X number of members, you automatically get a tag. We have to apply for either cow, or bull, there are separate draws for each. But, even if you don't draw an adult tag, you can still hunt for calves. The theory being that the natural calf mortality rate is high enough, hunting them takes the pressure off the remainder.
Experience has proven this is not always true, and there are now calf draws in some areas.

Down here in Georgia, we cane hunt Whitetails and Turkeys in season. Hogs anytime. One can also get Tags for black bear and alligator.

Mostly deer in NEPA. Some bear if you're lucky. Then in the south-central part of the state we have an elk population (not the biggest, but it's a population) where you can obtain a special permit to take one (that's a headache and a half).

I think the DNR here in Michigan only issued around 175 Elk Permits this year. The majority of those were cow only (which I would NOT be interested in). The chance of getting a Michigan Bull/Cow choice permit in a lifetime are next to NONE.
Seems to me that they should stop the Elk Hunt for a few years, allow the herd to get bigger & offer the applicants a better chance of getting a tag.
I'd like to see the firearm deer season changed to give the GUN (all gun, not muzzleloader) hunters the entire month of October & let the bow hunters have November & December. As it stands now those guys get not only the best choice in deer, but a 2.5 month season. We have too many deer in Michigan....lengthen the season so that the harvest brings the herd to below NUISANCE levels. There are so many deer at my parents place in Fenton that they can't even keep buds on the rose bushes unless they scatter stinky moth balls all over the rose garden....the deer pick em clean & they are in the FRONT yard, 50 ft from the road !

The whitetail overpopulation problem here in Mass. is so bad in the east that the DFW added an extra season in February this year for Nantucket.
In a couple of those zones, there is no seasonal bag limit for deer.
And last Fall, or the Fall before, (where oh where has my memory gone) a lady hunter not far from where I live nailed a black bear with her old SMLE .303. Cheers.

In New York we have Whitetail, Black Bear, Turkey, other game birds, coyote, fox and other small critters. No Moose or Wolf, yet.

We do not yet have a season for small minded people like politicians, liberals or anti-hunters, dang! We also do not have a tourist season.

You cannot hunt politicians who are less than 5' tall with a small game permit no matter how badly you want to. You cannot hunt your ex-wife or mother-in-law no matter how much of a pita they are. Lost or itinerant travelers from New Jersey and Washington, D.C. are also not legal to take at any time during the year.

You cannot post your ex-wife, mother-in-law or sister for Bigfoot bait AND, you cannot ask a politician a realistic question about guns and hunting

I think that about covers most of it. Did I fergit anything??? Mikey.

HERE IN FLORIDA, WE HAVE DEER, HOG'S, TURKEY, BOBCATS, AND ALIGATORS.
WE HAVE BLACK BEARS TOO! BUT I DONT THINK YOU CAN HUNT THEM. THEY ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

Here in Northern New York, we have big-bodied whitetails (200 lbs dressed and up), and a large population of black bears as far as big game goes. All right in the back yard!

The turkey population has exploded locally, birds are all over the joint. Guess I will have to use my newly aquired turkey licence!
