Flash,
Ive held a CWP {liscense to carry firearm} about 15 or so yrs now, so I dont bother with the sportsmans permit anymore, and I carry under my parka while hunting.Where it gets a little sideways to me is the book states "A Sportsmans Firearm Permit or Liscense to Carry a Firearm is required to carry a handgun CONCEALED or in a Motor Vehicle". Later it states "A person holding a SFP may not carry a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle". As far as I know as long as you are in transit to or from a LEGAL shooting activity, {ie shooting range, hunting I would think} in PA you dont need a permit of any kind. It must be unloaded, seperate from the ammo, and not easily accessable. I can not find anything that says you need any permit to hunt with an UNCONCEALED handgun. And as I stated I have received various answers from various WCOs at various times. I will have to dig out an old SFP and check it out. I used to have to get 3 a year back when it was issued for a specific handgun.
12 or 13 years ago, we were heading to WY to hunt, my buddy called the warden out there to ask what he needed to carry a handgun while hunting.
The answer was "A HOLSTER"
