16 inch scope on handi 223

i have the 223 handi with bull barrel 32 inches long i think maybe 36 and a 13 inch scope on it now will a 16 ich scope work on it?? my dove tail mount is 5 inches and the scope description says mount length is 6.5 does this mean that my dove tail scope rail needs to be 6.5 inches long??

By the way you must have a standard length scope rail at 5", the Ultra Scope rail is 6" long....if this helps...

It looks like you want to put a 16 inch long scope on that gun. I would think you could move the rings on the scope to work on your rifle to make it work. i just wana now if the 16 inch scope will work on here i was giving the mesurmets ov every thing i wasint sure if it would be to long. also i was woundering what the mountin length was the dove tail scope rail?? under stand now??

OK TZ, I'll take a crack at it. Get the length measurement of the 1" scope tube before it starts to flare at either end and we will start from there. I am sure it is mountable on a Handi if you take the time to set it up right. You MAY need a 6" Ultra scope rail and you MAY need a set of high extended (offset along the barrels axis) scope rings. I have a shotgun scope mounted that way with what consists of high Weaver rings, one extended and one standard to give me enough eye relief and mounting with the short shotgun scope body. get back with that measurement and I'll try to do some figuring and measuring and get back to you with my best guess scenario....

First of all why do you think you need a 16" long scope and do you really want to lug that much scope around?  Does 16" include a sun shade or something? What does that thing weigh?  You probably can mount that monster but I think it would take the Handi out of Handi Rifle.

You shouldn't have any trouble mounting that scope.  You will probably need high-base rings to keep it above the hammer and to maintain the proper eye relief.

i dont have the scope yet its just the one i was gona buy im gettin the 243 barrel for deer huntin and my 223 is varmints i got the money for the scope and i like the way they look so i figuredy y not ya now.also i figured if i ever desided i want to put it on the 243 i can but my longest shots will be 250 yards and normal around 15 to 100

Zach, the .243 deer rifle doesn't really need a big scope on it, I'd be puttin the Dusk to Dawn Banner(6-18x50?) on the .223 and a low power variable, (2-7x or 3-9x) on the .243. I have a high power variable on my .243 but it's for long range varmints and coyotes, not deer. I have a .25-06 for the long range deer!

ya thats what i was planin on doin putin the 3*4*40 on the 243 for deer and the big one on the 223 :grin:
