Glass Bedding A Tikka?
« on: January 05, 2005, 09:49:51 AM »
Posted this under Gunsmithing.  Don't mean to be redundant, but there seem to be a lot of "Tikka Folks" in this section.

My son has a Tikka Model 695 "Whitetail Hunter" in 7mm Rem Mag. He lost the rear stock screw and shot it a few times before realizing it. Since replacing the screw, the accuracy has deteriorated.

I have bedded several rifles - Rugers, Remingtons, etc - but this Tikka has a strange recoil lug setup. The lug is a very short extension of the front screw boss and a plastic plate is inserted in the stock to take the recoil.

I'd like to bed it, but am not sure what to do.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not really an answer for ya, but I did run into this bit while looking at Tikka reviews, the quote is from here: ( www.ozarkguns.com/rifles/tikka/tikka_FS_review.htm )

"Part of this uncanny accuracy comes from the stiff, free-floating barrel.  It also stems from the way Tikka beds the rifle. On the T3, the recoil lug is permanently embedded in the stock, with just its upper edge showing, and this edge fits into a groove on the receiver. It’s a variation on pillar bedding, and it ensures that the barreled action and the stock fit together precisely. "

Not sure if that's what you're running into with the Whitetail though...
