Buying FA revolver at the factory.
« on: January 03, 2005, 10:26:20 AM »
Does anybody know if an out of state resident can just traipse up to the counter at the FA factory in Wyoming and purchase a gun?  I'd like to mosie up that way next summer and get one if that's legal.

Unless you have an FFL, not much point

All handgun purchases have to be run through an FFL in your state of residence.  Even if FA would sell one directly from the factory, they still couldn't give it to you, but would have to ship it to an FFL in your home state.

Of course, my opinions are worth what you pay for them, and I could well be wrong.

I doubt it too. If they did, their distributors would probably not appreciate it. One of these days I'd like to go out there and take a factory tour and maybe see if I could sweep the floors for a couple of weeks to put toward a 97. hehe

If they will sell you one I think it would be at MSRP with no discount and then it would have to be shipped to a FFL in your home state, Maybe give them a call and ask ?

I spoke with Bob Baker this afternoon about this question. The answer is NO, they will NOT take your order at the factory. You MUST buy thru a licensed FFL dealer. They sell only dealer direct and do not take orders at the factory. This is driven by the anti's efforts to show manufacturers are selling direct.

They will help you select what you want and give you a form filled out to take to your FFL dealer to show him speficially what you want. I think Bob will check in here in the next day or so to answer some of your questions so if you have anymore ask them.

DONT DO IT!!  It is a good way to get a few extra $$s out of your wallet.
I called and talked to FA, with a connection.  Was given person to talk with, and ordered a gun and had it shipped to FFL dealer in my state.  Was told I was getting it at cost.  $1900.00.  Then found out about a week later that a friend of mine had picked one up from his FFL dealer for $1350.00.  Same gun.  I called to find out what was up.  FA quoted me MSRP, not cost.  The FFL dealer that I went thru played along letting me think this was dealer cost.  Come to find out the FFL dealer must have pocketted about $600.00 of my hard earned money.

Find an FFL holder who will set up an account with FA.  Have him get the actual cost from FA, and work out a deal at cost plus X%.  I sure wish I would have.

Learned the hard way.  (and was stupid to boot)

I'd be interested in knowing that dealer.  $1350 is less than any quote I've had so far.... for a 97 in 44.

Don't blame the manufacturer for your failure to secure a better deal with the dealer YOU chose to buy from. Freedom Arms didn't dictate to you who to buy from or what price you paid.

They sell to all dealers at same price. What price that dealer then charges the customer is between the dealer and customer. Freedom Arms doesn't control it.

No manufacturer or any item is going to tell you as a potential retail customer what the dealer will be paying for the item. That's rather poor business practice and I know of no industry or manufacturer who does such a thing. They will ONLY tell you MSRP. What it actually costs you is between you and the dealer you buy from. At this time Leupold is the only manufacturer I know of who is dictating the selling price to ultimate consumer and this is costing buyers of their scopes at least $100 per unit over what the freemarket price would likely be.

As stated we only take orders from licensed dealers.  Also when an individual calls asking prices we only quote msrp unless they claim to know the brother of a sister who had an aunt whose uncle had a friend who lived within thirty miles of FA thirty years ago, then we quote msrp plus ten percent, sometimes twenty.  But they still have to place their order with a dealer in their state.

Delivery time runs from right away to a couple months depending on what features are ordered.

Dealers selling prices will vary.  Their cost of doing business varies from area to area and depends on their situation and what services are offered.

Thank you for taking the time to set us straight on this issue.  Most manufacturers wouldn't bother to even acknowledge a group like this exists, much less spend a little time here.  But I guess we should expect top quality service from folks who make top quality firearms.  (   Was that good enough for a 20% discount?   And my aunt swears her boyfriend's ex-wife's son-in-law is pretty sure he drove right by your factory once, that must count for something!)
