M46 Husky sporter
« on: January 03, 2005, 07:51:59 AM »
I recently purchased a M46 in 9.3x62, a nice original unmodified rifle.  It is essentially just like my M46 in 9.3x57 but without the thumb notch in the left side of the receiver.  Same Swedish crest on the front ring.  I was under the impression that all these rifles were built on 1894 military actions which would have the thumb notch for using stripper clips.  Any ideas why this sample does not have this provision?  I believe the correct model designation is  M46AN.  Thanks

I went to the site, Pettsons.  Very informative.  Looks like they made only about 200 of these rifles in 9.3x62.  I'd never seen one in this caliber, only 6.5x55, 8mm Mauser and 9.3x57.

I'm in big trouble now.  The dealer I got the 9.3 from just called to advise me of the arrival of it's little brother.  The same rifle in 6.5x55, also not drilled for scope bases and in pristine condition.  Just need to fess up to the wife about the additional purchase.  Maybe, "Honey, I bought it for our grandson".  Yea, that's it!  He's only 18 months old, but already knows where the safe and reloading bench are.
