I am considering a 50 cal. Desert Eagle and was like to hear from anyone who has had or has one

There are not very many fans of the Desert Eagle here, my friend. I have a Mark VII in .41 mag, and I love it. It is accurate, fun to shoot, reliable, and I took a big doe with it this past fall. There is a Desert Eagle discussion forum on the net, just google it.

My brother in law had the .44 desert eagle, and i emphasize the word had.Bought it brand new last hunting season went back to factory once.Gun dealer we get our handguns from says he hates to order for guys because it seems they always go back for some reason or another. Unless you got a big paw on you to grip that gun it could be fun to shoot.Like my brother in law said before he traded it in "LOOKS GOOD IN THE MOVIES" lol.

The pattern I saw here at the ranges was
1) Surge of interest. Lots of Desert Eagles at the range.
2) Lots of Desert Eagles for sale as used guns.
3) No Desert Eagles at the range. Haven't seen one in three or four years.

That told me something.

My neighbor had one. He liked it for whitetail. Since he doesn't reload, it was to expensive to shoot. So it went down the road. He must be happy with the Desert Eagles though, I think he's still got a 357 & a 44.
If I was gonna spend the $$$ on a big bore autoloader I would take a look at a Wildey.

I have never owned one, however I have had the opportunity to play with 3 different DE 50cals. Without exception they all jammed quite frequently and it didnt matter what they were fed....

I own a Desert Eagle 44mg. I like it. The only jamming problems I've had were from not holding it right. Granted I hear plenty of jamming tales, but there are often ways to fix that yourself (polishing the ramp, making sure the springs are good, AND holding it correctly) Haven't shot the 50, the 44 has enough recoil for me.

Hi,

I had a Desert Eagle .44 for several years. I had a lot of trouble with jams. It was worse if I didn't hold it very tightly, but jammed regardless. It would jam 1 to 2 times per 8 shot clip. It also was pretty wild on ejection. Many times I had empties going through my hair, hitting me in the forehead, and even hitting my safety glasses.

I sent it back to Desert Eagle for repairs. The first time, they replaced the springs and ejector and sent it back. It was just as bad. I kept it and shot it a bit more, but continued to be unhappy.

Finally, I sent it back to them a 2nd time. That time they decided that the problem was due to too high a slide velocity so they reduced the gas piston by 0.005. That definitely did wonders for the problem. It still would jam occasionally, but not routinely.

The pistol demonstrated excellent accuracy. It would easily shoot 1" or less on the 25 yd range with a scope on it. I never did hard core accuracy shooting at 100yds to check groups there, but informal shooting suggested 3-4" would have been easily achieved.

I eventually traded it away for something else. Between the continued intermittent jamming and it's big and bulky esthetics, it just never made it into my keepers list.

My issue with a Desert Eagle is that you have to shoot full house loads to cycle it. I like a good bone-jarring tumping occasionally, but most of my shooting is done with reduced loads and lead bullets.
