Looking for a Good Hunting Sngle Action Handgun - Assistance

Looking for a good hunting handgun (Deer size game max) - considering Ruger Vaquero, Ruger Black Hawk, and Ruger Super Black Hawk.  Shooting distances 25-75 yds max and no scope.  The best accuracy to be expected? What do you recommend?

Ruger blackhawk Hunter in .41 mag or .44 Mag with std or Bisley grip frame. It comes with Ruger rings and built in mounts. For the price it can't be beat. My .44 in a Ransom rest put 12 shots (twice around the cyl.) into 1.1" @ 25 yds. and 2.6 " @ 50 yds. I've taken 8 deer with this set-up and can't think of anything I would change to make it better.

Same as Dave,
The hunter gives you the option to mount a scope and the bbl lug balances things out nicely.

I'll cast a third vote for the SBH Hunter.  I think Ruger has a winner with that one.
Best,

Yep, me too. For the money the RSB is the best buy on the market. My longest shot on a deer with iron sights was 135 yrds., that was back when I was doing alot of shooting with it. I like big bore guns and have move up to the .454 and .500 for my hunting guns now. BUT they won`t kill a deer any deader than a .44 mag., I guess I just like recoil.

I think there are at least 3-4 GBO members with SBH or SBH Hunters for sale right now. If that's the route you select you sure can get one rat here from Lloyd or several others.

Drags,
My hunting load is a hardcast Lyman 429244GC sized .431 with LBT blue lube and Hornady gaschecks, final wt. 268 grs. 21.5 grs Alliant 2400, WLP primer in Starline brass trimed to 1.265 so the crimps are as consistant as possible. Twice around the cyl.(12) velocity averaged 1406 fps. over a Comp. Electronics Procrono at 6'.

i also have a sbhhunter for sale.  that being said, if you want the best gun for the money, i would contact lloyd and make arangements to buy his gun if you are serious.  he knows his bananas, and has impeccable taste with pistols.  everything that i would do to a gun, lloyd has had done.  and the way he has it set up, it aint giving up nothing to a hunter model.

were i in the market, i would be peeing all over myself to get that gun from him.   that is my two cents; and no, i aint getting a commision from lloyd.  it is just the brutal truth.

I also vote for the Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44Mag...I may be a little influenced because that is the hunting revolver that I own.  I put a red dot on mine but put about 100 rounds through it without that site when I first bought it.  It handled nicely without the site and it handles nicely with the site.  Even though the Hunter comes with scope rings you don't need to use them.  Heck, you might even want to try selling them on E-Bay.

Think the Ruger blackhawk hunter would be a good one looking at one myself in 41 mag .

On the advise of myronman I just agreed to buy Lloyd's SBH.  If that isn't typical of Graybeard people what is?  Myronman, I hope you sell your BH right away as reward for such unselfish comments.  I sure appreciate it!

congratulations!

glad to hear your getting it.  i have never met lloyd ('cept here), but his taste in guns speaks for its self.   what is more important is the other work do to it.   what that would cast a fella to have done (and done right) is what makes it such a good deal.   i will bet the farm you will be tickled pink when you get it.   like i said (and another guy as well), were i in the market, i would have bought that myself.

besides, since ruger has brought the sbh hunter back, everyone and their brother has one-or two.   you wont have that problem with your new toy. :agree:
