Remington barrel nut

I just know that Mr. Graybeard is going to love this one.  I just heard that Pac Nor is going to start using a barrel nut on their replacement barrels for Remgt...Remmmm....Remmmm. Just can't say that word. :)  Seems like now you can order a fully chambered barrel from them and fit it your self with the new self adjusting beautifully engineered wonder of all wonders barrel nut. Also for some other manufacturer besides Savage but can't remember which. I remembered the Remmmm...Remmm...you know, because of the way Mr. Graybeard likes them so much. Course they have a Savage recoil lug also.  :D  :D

OK, so we got Safety Sheriff who can't say "Savage", and now Donaldo can't say "Remington"....  Who's out there who can't say these brand names:  Browning, Weatherby, Winchester, and Sako?  Just a good holiday joke fellas; nothing personal. :)  :-D  :)  :D  Patriot

I'm with Graybeard all the way. I've said it before. No offense to Savage lovers, but I think the barrel lock nut looks like something you'd find in Home Depot's electrical conduit section.  I wouldn't want it on any of my rifles. :)

HeHe.......I know GB, I have trouble with Rugrat....I mean Ruuugggeerr....Nice rifle.....after you replace the trigger, stock, and lap the barrel.  All I hear about the Ruuugggeeerrrr is how much the barrel gets copper fouled.  Purty things though.  I remember the other rifle Pac Nor is going to use a barrel nut on.....the Weatherby Mark V.  Eventually good engineering, like cream, come to the top.  When the other manufacturers find out how much money they can save by going to the barrel nut idea, they will all be using it.  Just think how much time is spent in setting the proper headspace on a regular barrel, not to mention what it costs to have a smith do it when you order a new barrel.  With the nut on the barrel, just put a go gage or properly sized case in the bolt, screw the barrel in until it contacts the gage, screw the nut down and tighten it.  There you just rebarrelled your rifle.    You could have one very nice action and stock and half a dozen barrels in different calibers, but same barrel contour.  The change out is about a 20 minute job, start to finish.  And you thought I was crazy, HeHe.......Merry Christmas all.....and may all your new rifles look like a Savage.  :D  :D

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!  They better not mass produce that idea and change the looks of those awesome Weatherbys!!!  IF AND ONLY IF, it will save money, still remain just as accurate if not better, remain rock-solid, and offer caliber flexibility while still one rifle, MAYBE AND ONLY MAYBE, it is a good thing.

Don't know how I coulda missed that name brand in my list! :?   As for extra copper fouling, I have yet to see "excessive" fouling in my Ruger 17HMR...Or perhaps it's only associated with the centerfires?

thanks a lot....          Not that I hate the brand, just don't want all the rifles to look the same in that regard.  BTW, what would be changed that would affect the looks on all the rifles IF they do go through with this? :D   Patriot

I don't know what they would change.  I haven't been to Pac Nor's site to check on this.  I ran across this at another forum, don't remember which one or where.  Don't even know for sure if it is true, but I knew it would rattle a few cages.   :)  I know most people don't like the looks of the barrel nut, and to tell you the truth, I don't care much for it either.  You can of course rebarrel a Savage action just like any other and leave the nut off.  The nut is there only to make the original setting of the headspace a few minute job.  It really is a sweet piece of engineering.  And on top of all that, you can change out the bolt head too.  A new bolt head is about $50 or less.  Course the standard 06 bolt head fits most, but you could do a 223 bolt head.  The new Mossberg centerfire rifle has some kind of lock nut on the barrel but is doesn't have the cuts in it for the spanner wrench, it is smooth.  Maybe there is one hole in the underside for some kind of spanner to fit into.  It really does present some great ideas on having one very good stock, say a McMillian or whatever, a good single shot,or repeater, action bedded real good and just change out the barrel.  It really is about a 20 minute job.  You can even set it up for your particular sized case.  Also you could have a nice after market trigger if that was what you wanted.  Even just one scope as it sets on the receiver.  Instead of several mid priced scopes you could get that high priced Yourapeein scope.  One stock, one action, one scope, dozens of barrels.  Now chamber that in your Reemmmmein...Remmm...what ever and see how it does.    :D   Happy New Year All..... and may your next rifle be a .......What is it we say......... S A V A G E !!!!.  Now see that wasn't so hard was it.   :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D   HeHeHe.
