CZ 550 w/ Mannlicher stock
« on: December 23, 2004, 02:08:58 AM »
Recently I have been increasingly interested in the CZ 550 FS in .308.  This model has the features that I am looking for, and the Mannlicher style stock is growing on me.  Who here has one and whats the consensus on the gun?  How well does the stock hold up over time, being fired often?  Thanks and have a safe Holiday.

MrNiceguy,  I own a CZ rifle and have owned two others in the past. They are wonderful shooters. Having said that, I have never owned the FS model. A aquantance of mine, that works in a gun shop I sometimes frequent, owns several of both models. He had stated that in his opinion the FS are not as accurate overall and are much more dificult to maintain zero with.
Because of his advise I never tried a FS even though I like there appearance, and the way they handle.

I have 5 CZ rifles total, 3- 452's and 2 of the 527 FS's.  The first 527 FS I bought was a Hornet. Usually the Hornet is a challenge to get really good accuracy from.  In a Kimber of Oregon M82 accuracy was OK but not spectacular. The 527 FS shoots under an inch with factory ammo and even better with handloads containing V-Max's.  The second 527 FS is a 223 and is one of the best I've owned which includes 2 Remington M700's and a variety of AR's, Mini-14's and No.1's.  I would bet the 550 FS will shoot like a dream and never cause a minutes problem...I would prefer aa 7x57 but that's not available. The 308 is surely hard to fault though and would likely make a great deer rifle..

A nearby store has some instock for$495.  I hope to get out and put one on layaway.  Pastorp, did your friend explain why this gun is difficult to zero?  I may just see what other CZs' rifles this nearby store has, seems the guy mentioned having *a few* 550 Lux models.  Thanks for all the replys, your advice will be helpful in my next purchase.

A friend (and fellow gun enthusist) of mine just purchased a CZ with the Mannlicher stock in 30-06 he cleaned it sighted it in and said "Hey those CZ's can shoot!"

He then showed me a target shot at 100yds. with 2 sub .75 inch groups on it.  And belive me if he likes the gun you can bet it's a good one.
