I had a 686 Powerport that I regretably sold. Accurate as can be but at the time, revolvers weren't my bag, still aren't, but now looking back - I wish I would have kept that one.

Love my 686 Powerport-BUT-my 625 is my favorite--although I am kind of partial to my 4" 629 BUT for plinking I always take my 617.

I have owned at least 15 different Smiths over the years. I currently own five. M17-5,M34,M60,M28,M66. My favorite is the M17-5. I've had it for 20 years and it is a tack driver.

My 629 6" is my favorite but my mod 14 .38 is about tie with it. I had a mod 625; even though it was a nice gun, I got blisters on my finger tips from loading them darn clips.

I have several S&Ws that I just absolutely adore...

The model 41 is one of my absolute favorites so is it's predecessor, the model 46.

The model 17 is another of my favorites. I have 4 of them including 2 still new in the box w/ all papers that are 30+ years old.

The model 19 Combat Special is another gem of a revolver. I own 2 including one that is still new in the box that is 30+ years old.

As for the newer production stuff, I have a Performance Center 657 Comped Hunter that shoots so good that makes me misty eyed every time I shoot it.

That is just a few of my Smiths that just bring a smile to my face every time I see them and handle them.

The next S&W is probably going to be a 329 PD...

While a mear 26 oz (the mt guns are 40+ ounces), scandium framed with a titanium cylinder, 44 mag is sure to be a kicker, it will definitely be a joy to carry.

There is a saying, it doesn't matter how nice your carry handgun is... for it to be effective... you need to carry it... EVERY TIME...

I think that this handgun, in a good holster, fits the bill quite nicely.

Spyro Andes, man, where do you get the patients. I can't wait to get new S&W's out to the range and shoot them. I've tried for close to 40 years to wear them out and still can't get the job done. I guess that's the difference between collectors and us people who just aquire them? Besides, how do you know it going to work, when you need it,, if it's never been shot?

Don't let the "new in the box" stuff fool you...

If I have a gun that is "New In the Box", I usually have 2 or 3 of the very same model that I shoot.

I collect handguns that I really like... lots of old Colt... some High Standard stuff... quite a bit old S&W stuff...

The only way I end up really liking them is by shooting them... alot...

Thankfully, I had a couple of folks (including my father) taught me to have refined firearm tastes at a young age. While my friends were blowing $$$ on baseball cards or other junk, I was buying old Colts and Smiths.

I like all of them!! M13 3 inch, M13 4 inch, M60, M37, M640, M686 6 inch with adjustable front sights and a non-fluted cylinder, M29 Mountain gun, M29 3 inch non fluted cylinder, 22A Target, 5904 and a 4013. Love them all. Steve 48

JWB500, your hands must be quite a bit bigger than mine. I sent my new pair of Troopers back to have some of the wood removed so I could reach the trigger in double action. I felt like I was palming a baseball and couldn't reach the trigger. Very thick on the sides. The ones I got for my M/G were the third of fouth pair of these grips and none, before, were anywhere as big as these? The lady that makes them at Herretts had the office call me this last week and ask me where I wanted the wood removed from, I told the caller I had no idea, I'm not a grip maker? They had me retrace my hand, and send with the grips, to the factory. I always thought Herrett's had a way of decifering the hand tracings to fit to the particular customers hand, it always worked in the past? If this doesn't do the trick, I'm going to purchase a set of the .500 grips and stay with those. I can sure tell Steve Herrett has passed away and isn't running his shop anymore. Won't pay another $100 and furnish the wood for another pair if they won't fit my hand.

I don't know, I'm only 5'8", 165lbs., I don't think I have big hands.
I have the Jordans on k-22, six .44's, and my 500. I will say, most of my shooting is SA, I hunt with my handguns. However when I do shoot DA, I've had no problems. Still love those Jordan's.

How long have you had them? This last pair I've got are just way too big for my hands. Like I said, I've got several other pairs of these and all of them fit just fine?

I currently have two S & W revolvers, a Model 637-2 Airweight .38 snub and a Model 317 Airlight .22. Love them both. The .38 is my main carry gun.

I also have on layaway an S & W Model 22A .22 Auto.

Hey Oneills, welcome to the round table! Always nice to hear from new voices.

A custom 586? What did you have done? Got any Pix? Enquiring minds want to know.

I'm a fan of stainless but a 586 at the right price would be hard to pass up, I had a 686 when I was shooting in the police leagues that was badly abused with hot loads. By the time I sold it (to a sweet little old lady who needed a house gun) it had around 44,000 rounds thru it, and most of those were nasty. I don't ever remember shooting 38's in it, unless they were loaded hot. I had to have it re-timed twice, but it always shot like it was radar-guided. Some of the loads I put thru it probably wouldn't be sanctioned for a Contender, but it never let me down. My shooting team leader always kidded me about the matches, he could tell when I was shooting because the steel targets we shot at went "clink" when everyone one else was shooting, but when I stepped to the line they went, "CLANG!"

Even given my penchant for stainless guns, a 586 with a nice set of wood grips is one of the prettiest sights I can think of!

I have owned a bunch of them over the years, but I have three favorites. A Model 40 centennial that I bought nib at a gunshow, a 45 LC Mountain Gun that was Mag-Na-Ported from the factory, and a 4" 686 that I carried on duty for years and has probably had much more than 10,000 rounds through it. I had grips made for the 686 by the late Deacon of Bear Hug Grips fame. They are beautiful and were made to fit my hand.

unfortunately I own only 2 handguns at this time. both are smith &wessons, a 4040PD and a 642. Both are used as carry guns, both are reliable so I guess I have all the handguns I need at this time. Now if I had all the handguns I want.

Ashley make a "BIG" Dot tritium glow-in-the-dark front sight and the smaller "standard" dot one. The Big Dot model is way too big fer me, but the large white inlay around the tritium vial on the standard dot model makes it super fast to pick-up - day or night...
