10 VS 12& & 14" Barrels
« on: November 27, 2002, 05:29:20 AM »
currently I only own 12 & 14" barrels but I am looking at a 10".  Can someone who has both tell me if the longer forend for the 12 & 14s will fit the the 10's?

I realize I won't be able to use the front screw.  I am building a heavy forend for my other barrels and need to know if I will need to make another for the 10".

Thanks,
DonT

Barrel forends

No the forend for a 10" barrel only has one lug for mounting, at least thats the way my 10" 44 barrel is. If you know some one with a mill you can cut another dovetail and ad the second lug and they will fit. Thats what I did. The rear lug is in the same place on both forends. Hope this helps,KN

The 14" barrel is not tapered, the 10" is slightly. The 14" forend will fit the 10" barrel, but the fit is sloppy. A 10" forend on a 14" barrel will split the wood when you crank down the screw. They're cheap enough, it's best to get the right one. Also the carbine forend is totally different from either of the other two; much more taper and the screw spacing is different from the 14". (10" only has one anyhow.)
