True meaning of "Tack Driver"!
« on: December 17, 2004, 04:52:46 AM »
Took my 24" 7mm-08 Encore out to the range the other day and got tired of shooting at paper bulls-eyes.  So, I put 5 thumbtacks on a standard sheet of paper at 50 yards.  After 8 shots, only ONE remained, and it had a pretty nice nick in it! (had my scope cranked up all the way...)

Next weekend, I think I am going to try it at 100 yards.

There were 2 other guys out there shooting while I was, and they were trying their damndest to hit a coke can at 200 yards.  They only shot 4 or 5 times, then started packing up to go home.  I asked them if they minded if I took a shot at their "target"...2 shots later, there were 2 very dead coke cans on the ground.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Thats cool!!!!
I used to shoot with a guy at our club that was a competition benchrest shooter, his idea of small game hunting was shooting flys on his target at 100yds. :)  :)

Hardertr,

That’s nice shooting. Tack driving for high power calibers though is normally done at 100 yards for the bragging rights. The pop can story was pretty cool though. Let us know how good your rifle does with the tacks at 100 yards.

Hardertr,

Let me qualify tack driving a little. If you can’t see it, you can’t shoot it.
The only real “tack Driver” I have is a 220 Swift. That’s because I have an 8X32 Burris scope on it. I can see the fly on the target backboard and I can count its legs also. If I put that scope on the other rifles I own,,,, maybe some of them would be tack drives too.

At my range the other day was a guy shooting a well-tune .22 rifle.  After he shot up his target, he started standing .22 LR brass on the rail in a row and picking them off one by one at 50 yards.  Asked me if I wanted to try and I got 4 out of 5 in just one shot each.  I was impressed and thought that was lots of fun.  Make me appreciate his rifle.  Builds a steady hand.
