150# bows??
« on: December 15, 2004, 09:43:32 PM »
Just purchase two Barnetts  A Ranger and a Wildcat lll for my Grandsons to learn and except the limitations of bow hunting. Guestion is  are they heavy enough for taking Whitetails?  I will be limiting their shooting to under 30 yds. Shooting 17 in. arrows and 100gr. broadheads.
Deactivated at member's request after he tried to raise price on item in classifed when Redhawk1 offered to buy at listed price.

Iam sure they both will do the job as long as you know your limitations.Iam familiar with the Ranger;150# draw,50 ft.# of enengry, speed 250 fps,16 " bolts, very good looking rig.On the Wildcat,Iam not familiar with it.I know Barnett makes a Wildcat C5,which is not available in the US.Iam using a Barnett Rhino Mag.I feel sure they will both do the job as long as the shooter does his.Hope the boys have a good and safe time with them..................Rick

Ontario regulations require that crossbows have a draw weight of at least 99 lbs for deer and 119 for moose.  A 150 lb crossbow is more than sufficient to kill a deer if used within its limitations.

The main reason (as I see it) for increasing the draw weight - and, therefore, velocity - of a crossbow is to mitigate the effect of noise and the possibility of the animal jumping the string.  I doubt that a faster crossbow kills any quicker, cleaner or more effectively than one thats a little slower (within the effective power range).
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

I have a Ranger straight prod not the compound but both are 150# You bet they will kill deer I shot two last year with mine. I did not get a chance to hunt as much this year and where I do hunt the most the deer were scarce. I think we shot them all off as it was a area with problem deer in a metro area and the City wanted the deer shot off. I guess we did a good enough job.    Good thing I did well with a pistol and a rifle this year. :)  Any way I saw no difference in performance with the crossbow than I did with my compound put the arrow or bolt in this case where you are supposed to and dead deer! The Ranger series works well expecially for a entry level bow. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

........150 is more than enough.....
razor sharp, NEW broadheads are what counts in my opinion.
as well as well placed double lung hit.
if you do that , a venison meal is a guarantee every time.
