Savage Model 12FVSS 22-250
« on: January 30, 2003, 02:18:52 PM »
I was thinking of buying a savage model 12fvss in 22-250 caliber with a 1 in 12" twist rate. I was planing on using it for foxes and the ocassional coyote.  Dose anyone have any experience with this gun and what do you think of it?  I was thinking of using 55 grain bullets so would this be a good twist rate or should i look for something different?
thanks

I don't have that particular rifle but my experiences with savages have all been good. If I were in the market for a 22/250 I would certainly consider it. The 1:12 should work with most bullets up to about 60-62 grs.  KN

Travis,

I have been considering getting this rifle for quite some time.  Savage will offer this gun with the new AccuTrigger.  I'm waiting to try this out before I buy it, but this rifle, especially for the price, is a good one - especially in the .22-250.

I have the Savage  BVSS,in the 22-250. I use it at Bench rest shoots,in the factory class. It is one heck of a shooter !!
The past models had a tough trigger, but could be adjusted,so that is no problem.
A very good choice .

Travis I bought  a 12fvss a few yrs ago , but I found that stock was not rigid enough to hold the weight of barrel when on my bipod. The barrel would settle down and rest against the stock.I called Fred at Sharp Shooters Supply and bought take off laminate factory, that fixed the barrel problem. As for accuracy I have shot less than 100 rds thru mine but it does shoot, .875 of a inch groups with 55grn remington factory loads. If you plan on this as a walk around rifle be prepared, its heavy even worse with the laminate stock and a bipod. You should be well satisfied with the way it shoots but for walking its hard on the back.
