For you guys useing the trapper in 45lc, what kind of range can you get with them? I hunt a lot of timber and was thinking of trying the trapper in long colt.

I load mine with a Lee 255 grain RNFP at 1525 f/s. A dead-on zero at 50 yards is 6 or so inches low at 100 for me. Set up with a Marble tang sight. Don't know if it's the rifle, my eyes, the load or sunspots during the Vernal Equinox, but a 5 shot, 5" group at 100 yards is the best I've ever done. At 50, I can get 5 shots in one hole. It's deadly though. Furthest shot I've ever taken was on a 250 barr hog and had complete pass through at a paced 90 yards. Don't think I'd go much beyond 100, not because it won't do the job, I just can't do my part.

Thanks Castaway, I am havin a hard time making up my mind. Over the years I have shore had good luck with the ol 3030 and I don't know wheather to try the 45lc or not.

Have you tried swc's instead of the RNFP's ? I got much better accuracy at 100 YDS with the SWC's for some reason or another.
For Deer I only drive them about 1200 FPS. Even at that all shots have been pass thru out to the 100 yd mark.... driving them faster does make for a little flatter trajectory though

Tried SWC's. Got lazy last year and didn't cast, but ordered some Speer 250 or 55 grainers. Impressed with the 50 yard shooting, never tried it at 100. Loaded all as plinkers with 6.8 of Unique (860 f/s).

As much as I enjoy casting I dont have a lot of time for it myself.
I shoot a lot of unique also and 10 grains under a 250 grain SWC from my mod 92 has put a lot of meat in my freezer. Actually the most accurate 2 powders I have used from my gun have been 700X and 800X.
Most people pass them up for the same reason they pass on unique... Dirty

My opinion on Unique is dirty, smirty. Works fine, accurate and a little goes a long way. Never had a failure to feed, fire or extract using it. The light load of 6.8 Unique is very close to my zero for the hard shooters at 50 yards and I took a turkey with it this past spring. Very easy on new shooters, recoils much like a 22.
