Hey Folk's
I was wondering if anyone has any comments for the felt recoil of a tikka in 300 win mag (synth) as compared to say a ruger (wood) or browning (synth)? I have been considering the tikka in stainless synthetic, because of it being lighter and more convenient to carry. Thanks for your help. Mark

you are talking about a lightweight rifle in a heavy recoiling caliber. it would be too much for me, but it's up to you to decide. it wil kick more than heavier rifles.

People say that synthetic stocks "give" more during recoil so then you actually feel less of it, while wood has no "give" at all. I honestly don't know, but it does kinda make sense. Still, all else equal, a lighter rifle will in fact kick harder.

i have a tikka t3 .300 win it weighs about 7 pounds with the scope and all i reload and i shoot 180gr bullets at around 3000 fps and its not that bad at all really only when wearing a t-shirt :-D the only thing i can compare it to is a 12 ga slug gun shooting win partitions kicks a little more than the .300 win

Dont shoot 300 win, but have the Tikka T3 Lite in 338.. All I can say, OUCH!! That damn thing aint the most comfortable to shoot, thats for sure. Need to find some sort of sissy pad or try the Limbsaver on it.

Hi, I have several Tikka's and like them. Have a friend who shoots the .338 version and it hurts. But the .338 is about one third more recoil than the .300 quite a difference. Still though the .300 packs a punch. I do shoot a .300 Sig at about 7 3/4 lbs and the recoil is very manageable, even nonexistant when shooting game. Very good caliber. I would get the wood blued version, not because of the recall on some serial number, but because I have both and prefer the wood blued.

Hello everyone!
I have a Tikka M695 in 338winmag. I had the barrel "ported" and the perceived recoil went down considerably. It's something you should consider for the 300 mag [which has a rep. as being a vicious kicker in some rifles]. Mine weighs in at about 9.5 pounds fully loaded so there's another plus. You end up carrying a heavier rifle but also benefit from less perceived recoil. It is actually a pleasure to shoot off the bench now! I hunt with either 250 grain federals or 230 gr win failsafes & either one of those loads is no bother. In fact I'd rather shoot a 338 rather than a 300 mag - I think it has something to do with the "abruptness " of the recoil of the .300 as opposed to the .338. Cheers! & Merry Christmas to all!!!

If you want to tame recoil and get a really nice replacement butt-pad for a Tikka T3 synthetic - a Limbsaver recoil pad for a Winchester 1300 Synthetic bolts to a Tikka using the existing screw holes. Pad fits so well that you don't even need to trim it.

The Limbsaver is awesome, works like a dream and I can shoot hot handloads all day without a whimper.

Personally, I'd rather take the recoil rather than lugging around a heavy rifle.
Recoil is only bad when sighting in... never felt a thing while hunting.
