Opinions of a few spinning reels
« on: December 12, 2004, 01:42:02 PM »
I need to buy another reel and want one with the live bait feature. My considerations are these.

Penn Live liner
Shimano bait runner
Okuma epixor
Shimano thunnus

I know these vary in price a fair bit. I will be using 15-20 Lb test line much of the time. My primary targets are cat fishing and my regular visits to the Florida Keys fishing for whatever I can catch. If you have experience with any of these reels please share your feelings.

Look at the Penn Slammer.  It is essentially a Penn Liveliner (of which I own a 460 and 560), just without the switch on the back.

The Shimano baitrunners are excellent, and function as the liveliners, but they are huge and cumbersome.

For your intended purpose, the Penn Slammer 360 is your best bet, and no bigger than the 460.
