Does the 17 rem barrel use 17 HMR shells?

17 cal. Remington is a center fire cartridge.
17HMR is a rim fire..
Two different systems...

There is a very big difference in these rounds. The HMR is rimfire and the Rem. is centerfire. With the HMR you push a 17 grn. bullet to 2,250 fps. and with the Rem. you can puch a 25 grn. bullet to over 4,000 fps.

You are a little light on the velocity from the 17 HMR. Mine cronos out to about 2700. The 17 Mach 2 does about 2200. As you pointed out neither holds a candle to the 17 Rem!
