Any manufacturers still building the .257 Roberts?
« on: November 30, 2004, 01:36:18 PM »
Dumbest thing I ever did was sell mine some years back. One shot kills on deer and antelope, no exceptions. Soft on the shoulder, hard on the game. I wanted a 25-06 and I got a good one, but it made more noise, burned more powder and kicked harder.  The effect on game was the same as the Roberts, near as I could tell.  I'm ready for another Roberts now if I can find one.

Ruger is the only one I can think of  that still chambers it.
I built mine on a mauser action, yes it is a great deer cartridge.

Ruger builds them with both a 22" and 20" barrels.  I have the 22" and it is a real sweety.

Ruger is the only manufacturer building new ones.  You can still find used ones on Gunbroker.com or Auction Arms though.  Right now there are a couple of Remington 722's & 760's (pump) listed as well as a tang safety Ruger and a Mauser.

I was told by a dealer here in town, that the 257 Roberts and 7x5 were both dropped at the beginning of the year by Ruger. Since then, I have yet to see one of the shelf new.

lilabner,

Ruger still chambers the .257 Roberts in the following three models;

M77R MKII - 22” standard
M77RL MKII - 20” Light Weight
No. 1B - 26” standard

I would choose either the M77R or the No.1B(my perferred choice).  I just believe the 20" barrel is way too short for this great cartridge.  Lawdog
